What Is Safe To Kill Bugs And How To??

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by DrGreenthumb619, Apr 17, 2014.

  1. I have a 4x4x8 mylar grow room indoors. The plants have been growing for almost 3 weeks and until today have had no signs of bug/nats/flys/ to be honest Im not sure what kind they are but before the problem gets bad I want to know the safest way to get rid of them. I've heard dish soap, vinegar, Epsom salt....It would be awesome to get somebodies advice before I try using any of these methods...plus how do I do it? spray the leaves, put it in the soil. You tell me

  2. I had problem with bats in my soil I used vegetables oil spray and it didn't hurt my plants and it kill them or take the top 3inch of soil and bake it let cool and put back if your growing with soil liked the spray

Neem oil/neem cake or some organic pesticides should get the job done.

  4. I found this stuff called diatomaceous earth today. Its supposed to be awesome! its for prevention, its easier to prevent than it is to stop an infestation

  5. Organic?

  6. Yeah look it up its pretty cool. Apparently once water hits it, it doesn't work anymore. It doesn't affect ph, nutes, soil or plants. It's basically fossilized cylindrical organic compounds that pierces through the exoskeleton of any insect, pretty much draining their insides! I guess people even put it in smoothies to help out digestion??? Idk...I'll try it and see how it works. Remember it's a prevention thing, not something to fight pre existing problems...I'll keep you posted on how it works...

  7. Oh plus it's pretty cheap too!!

we use it on plants,in our food, in our chicken laying boxes and dust bath. The one bad thing is it does hurt good bugs just like any insecticide.

Neem is good stuff. its about all you need.

  9. Yeah op if it hurts "good insects" then I highly recommend using some neem oil and or neem cake over this stuff. I learned something today though thanks to the op and you snoopdog6502.

  10. Good to know, I'm still learning so any info I can get I like to take it all in...I didn't know about the "good" bugs, does this go for all grows? Indoor?outdoor?hydro?

  11.
Yea ditomecious earth will take out the lady bugs, prying mantis, parasitic wasps, earthworms, honey bee's,,,, The friendlys go with the bad guys.

I battle those fucking bastard aphids, fuck fuck fuck. :D I hate those fuckers. I hit them with neem. I took my hydro clones outside, washed them with a sprayer, soak them under water in neem mix for and hour then planted them. I won this time,,, for now.

I thought spider mites were bad, aphids can be born pregnant, hows that for fucked up?

  12. Born pregnant? What the actual fuck! Man and I thought spider mites were a mother fucker.

Side note- Yeah op get some lady bugs and prying mantises (with some neem cake and oil) and you should be good!

  13.
any grow, its best to spot them early or just get a quart of neem for $20 and spray as a preventive measure. Mix 2 tablespoons with a gallon of water and spray the shit out of plants in veg often. Then when you move plants into a flower room you can be done spraying. dont want to screw up and have to spray flowering plants.

Around the year 2002 I got pissed over spider mites, threw 115 plants in the trash and sold my big grow lights. did outdoor only for a few years.

  14. Damn! Your clones are crazy nice and bushy!! Do you start pruning right awAy!? I want mine to look like that!!

  15. Please excuse my ignorance as I maybe talking about another pesticide but is it not true that one should spray their plants (if outdoor) more towards the hours of dusk or before dawn so as to not "burn" the plants.

  16.
    Scary shit!

  17.
Clones come from a mature plant so they have branches ready to go, I dont prune or top.  I do chop lower branches off when the plant starts flowering to not waste time growing popcorn buds.

I think its half true, most of your spray will be gone in 10 minutes. I think dusk is best, the bugs are active real good then.

  18.
Yea I grow lots of thing beside cannabis indoors and out. Bugs can hitch a ride into a grow room real easy.

Fucking soil, you just dont know whats in it like you do hydroponic solution. Ever open a new bag of soil and instantly have fungus gnats fly out?

Thats why I use new soil, I use it and out to the outdoor garden it goes, never stays in the room.

Im loving hydro in every way, less of a home for bugs, easy to change solution vs soil, is clean. better control of the fertilizing. Most of all the plants do grow 125%+ faster.

I still have soil plants. just phasing them out indoors.

  19. fire, fire works well...
