I used a center punch once . It was heat treated so it was harder then steel. I just tapped and tapped just using my hand and the punch . It just chipped it a little at a time . But finally it made a nice round hole I stuck a rubber grommet in and a slide . Insta bong. I wish I still had it . It was a coniac bottle of some kind . Hit like a mad man . Yeah a glass drill is your best bet. Luckily when I was a teenager my mother had one and all types of vases like the ones in the op. I made quite a few bongs in those days.
OP you need diamond drill bits. Heres a set for 4.87 cents shipped. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000MOI9G6/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3NUNNXXHUJDMF Keep the glass under water or under a drip while you drill and nothing will shatter. It will be so smooth, its unreal. Made about 80 bongs this way and sold 60 or so to my local headshops.
pokesmot, your afuckin boss!ordered and on their way,I've got all kinds of bottles and shit! Gonna go fucking nuts Sent from my ADR6350

How to make any glass into a bong: Buy a $10-$15 glass downstem/slide combo from your local head shop. Should not be glass on glass but if you can make it work good for you. It should come with a rubber grommet. Next go to lowes and buy the grommet if you need one and also buy a diamond drill bit of the size of the grommet. The drill bit is expensive $20-$30. Use a normal drill with the diamond drill bit to drill a hole in the glass. Insert the grommet and slide/downstem and you're done. Make sure the place you drill has a good downward angle so the downstem can go deep into the water without leaking out the slide.
