Butane Nozzle Hole On Tube Too Big?

Discussion in 'Harvesting and Processing Marijuana' started by OneDayJD, Apr 16, 2014.

  1. I just got a new BHO tube. Getting ready to chop a plant I've got now and plan on blasting the trim and popcorn buds. Now, here's my issue...I haven't gotten my butane yet. The only butane I have on hand is the Bernz shit I use to fill my torch to heat up my nails with. I stuck it on there the other day just because the nozzle hole on the tube looked too big. And of course it was. My question is: do the better butanes that I will use to blast (Vector, Colibri, etc) have bigger nozzles on them? Or do I need to get some kind of adapter? If I need an adapter I'd like to go ahead and get it even though I'm about a week or two away from blasting. Thoughts? Thanks gents.

  2. theres tips in the lid of the cans..

  3. Thank you, President Carter! That's what I was hoping. You still eat fatback for breakfast? I know you did when you were in office.

But in all seriousness, I've been following a lot of your posts on BHO, JC. You know the BHO game very well, better than most. I may be hitting you up with more questions when I get ready to blast!

  4. The tips included with the butane cans don't always make the best seal. A nice fat wrap of teflon tape makes a great seal. $.49 in the plumbing section of your big box hardware stores.

  5. Newport tips are the best IMO, should never need teflon tape unless you have a really shitty tube, no tube should have a hole bigger than a newport red tip, which is big as fuck

    Hey is this a good tube?;

I've only used it a few times but I have had a blow out.. I think that was my inexperience though. I have the 28 gram wax tek extractor tube

I also have learned that I need a much larger tube in the future.

  7. Glass tubes are prone to blowouts. I have no idea if thats a good tube, never used one, I personally hate glass tubes. I have info on page 155 or so of the BHO discussion thread on the tubes I put together. Use a stainless screen on the outside of your coffee filters to prevent blowouts.

thanks, that's what I intend on using in the future. I got the same type of duct clamp I use for my exhaust on my flowering tent, just about 2 inches or so to go around the tube. When I had the blowouts I was just using rubber bands. I will check out that info cause that setup looks legit and really easy to use. I like the filter built in a lot.

But that is a really great tip though about the screen, definitely going to try to figure a way to incorporate that in my glass tube, if not I'll likely end up going the metal route like you have above, looks great.

  9. Damn, Jimmy. That stainless tube looks slick. I need to look into one of those in the future. This is my first time blasting so I hope I don't have any blowouts.

One question I have regarding coffee filters in conjunction with the metal screen. In what order should they be put on? At the end of the tube at the opening, should the metal screen go on first and then put the filter(s) over that? Or should I put the filter(s) on first and then put the screen on last?

Finally, how many filters should I be using? I know I need unbleached and all that. And I know obviously the more filters I use the more it will filter out but I assume at some point if you put too many filters on you get diminishing returns? I was thinking two filters should be fine.

Also, my tube came with a metal screen (and an extra spare one) and a small duct clamp to clamp it on. I don't like this clamp. Because I want it on tight enough that it doesn't blow out, but I don't want it so tight that I crack or damage the glass. I'm thinking about using zip ties instead. Thoughts?

  10. Filters wont diminish your returns, use at least 2 layers and it doesnt matter where the metal mesh is, just as long as it gets used.

dont use zip ties, a hose clamp is ideal just dont tighten it a lot, I've cracked a tube that way. It really doesnt need to be super tight so dont go overboard

  11. Fantastic advice, brother. I appreciate that.

I don't have a vac purge or anything. So i'm just going to be blasting into pyrex. Probably going to try three runs with an ounce or so and see what the different qualities are and go from there. One can per run, nothing more. And I've seen a bunch of different stuff on temperatures of water baths or whatever you're using as heat to purge off. I was thinking around 120-130 F. Is that too low?

  12. too high, if you like your oil to have flavor, keep those temps around 100F for many many days if you arent vaccing. you only need the water bath while theres liquid tane, once its reduced and bubbling slowly you can transfer it to a griddle to keep warm

  13. Damn, glad I mentioned it then! For days and days, eh? Fuck that's a long time. I was thinking I could do this Saturday morning and be dabbing that night! But I got no problem waiting for good shit.

I suppose if it's only around 100, then I could just transfer it to a heating pad or a reptile mat or some shit, couldn't I?

  14. If you like smoking butane you could smoke it the same night :p

Theres a correlation between time and temperature. Lower temps, longer times. Higher temps, shorter times. You could wait until its had a decent heat purge and then throw it in the oven at 200F for a few hours and it will be fairly clean but it will be a sappy mess that has no flavor so its your choice. I would personally do 100-110F for 3-4 days depending on how much oil you have. Honestly, if you're only blasting an ounce then you probably wont have more than 3-6g of oil so as long as its spread out super thin it should be able to purge pretty well in a few days
