Who Gives Blood?

  1. I'm giving blood this afternoon.

Who else gives blood? Why do you do it, or why don't you? Are you scared to? Have you needed it in the past?

I've given blood before, and my dad has been doing it for over 30 years. I think it is important, and a really good thing to do.

This can save lives. People need blood all the time, and I am glad that I am healthy enough to be able to supply that.

...Even though I have a debilitating phobia of needles.

I'm going anyway, as before, even though I'm scared. Its an irrational fear, but a powerful one. I'm hoping if I do this enough, I'll get rid of this fear, or at least learn to deal with it.

  2. ive tried 2 times to give blood just because someone could need it or i could need someone elses oneday, give n get. both times i went i was too low on iron so they wouldn't take my blood. kind of annoying, but thats what i get for trying to go out of my way to help strangers, an empty gas tank and a pricked finger.

  3. Not me, unless it's someone I know personally (and care about)

Not worth the risk (to me), don't like needles, and don't have that much blood to begin with

  4. I have given to the Red Cross for my school once. Now I'm a preferred member and they call me like once a week asking for a donation. haha

  5. I have been a regular blood donor over the years. I haven't donated lately for some health reasons but I know a lot of good can come out of it for people who are in the receiving end of the donation.
I am terrified of needles myself and get a sweat on as soon as the iron test is being done and that's just a quick jab of the finger but once the needle is in I'm fine.

The first time I donated there was a little issue and I ended up with a nasty bruise. It was painless though.

  6. I've given it twice in the last two years. Was gonna give it again earlier this year but the blood drive got canceled. So I'm gonna try again next year.

I don't do it for a specific reason. Its just one of those why not type of things. I have the spare time and ya never know when someone might need it so might as well.

I also have one of those bloods (O+ I think?) that you can give to any person no matter what type they have so yeah.

  7. Oh yeah, I get super nervous by the iron test too.

Except that I don't calm down once the needle's in. I'm always super scared, heart pounding and trying not to hyperventilate until its over and the needle's out.

I didn't used to be afraid of needles. It started when I got the HPV vaccine as a teenager. I had a really bad allergic reaction. I threw up, and then had what was basically a really bad trip--except from a vaccine that wasn't supposed to be psychoactive at all. My mind was not my own for the rest of the day, and it was terrifying.

Since then, I've been irrationally afraid of needles, and it's been a problem when I've needed to go to the hospital or have surgery.

Part of the reason I give blood is to try to get over this fear.

  8. I donate plasma regularly,but not blood

  9. I hate needles lol....I try to avoid shots n giving bloood at all cost.
And ive seen my friends get sick in school from it and made me not want to. I feel bad saying that cuz I know there are people out there who could use it....but just my take.

  10. I donated blood, the RedCross bugged the bejesus out of me until I no longer want to donate ever again. Actually, my campus was giving free In-N-Out, might trade my blood for a burger :)

  11. I wish I could donate blood but I weigh so little :(

  12. I'm not tall enough and I weigh too little to give blood :(

  13.
You'll miss out on the OJ and cookies, but not much else.

Personally I should really go find out my blood type, because my Dad is O- so there's some chance I could be too, and I easily weigh enough to give blood.

  14. No, blood will make me feel nauseous and then I see my own bag of it. Oh geese I'm getting grossed out thinking of it.
