DENVER – Denver Police arrested a husband accused of shooting and killing his wife Monday night.

Homicide detectives spent much of the night processing the scene in the 2100 block of South St. Paul Street in Denver.

Richard Kirk, 47, is being held for investigation of first-degree murder.

The woman, later identified as 44-year-old Kristine A. Kirk, called 911 and said her husband, Richard, was "talking about the end of the world and [saying] he wanted her to shoot him."

Kristine told dispatchers Kirk was hallucinating and was caring their three, small children. She told the authorities that Richard may have ingested marijuana edibles. Kristine had called 911 because she was seeking medical attention for him.

9NEWS has learned that, as the woman was on the phone with 911, Richard allegedly became violent and got a gun out of the gun safe. The dispatcher heard a scream and then an apparent gunshot. Kristine was not heard on the call again. Police say Richard had shot her.

Kristine died on the scene from a gunshot wound to the head.

Police don't have a history of responding to this home, according to 9NEWS' source.

Kristine was on the phone with dispatch for approximately 12 minutes before being shot, which is not an unreasonable time since her original call was not life-threatening.

According to Denver Police, any time a person dies while communication with Denver's emergency services, they examine the circumstances to ensure that the incident was handled properly and they look for areas to improve upon.

9NEWS has learned Richard has one prior arrest in Douglas County for driving under the influence and careless driving.

Richard has denied an interview request from 9NEWS. According to the police report, Richard admitted in the back of the patrol car, without questioning, that he killed his wife.

DENVER (AP) - A Wyoming college student visiting Denver on spring break jumped to his death after eating a marijuana cookie that his friend legally purchased in one of Colorado's recreational pot shops, authorities said Wednesday.

An autopsy report lists marijuana intoxication as a "significant contributing factor" in the death of 19-year-old Levi Thamba Pongi, a native of the Republic of Congo who fell from a motel balcony on March 11.
Pongi's friends told investigators he ate the cookie and "exhibited hostile behavior" that included pulling things off walls and speaking erratically, the report said.
Attempts by the three friends to calm Pongi seemed to work until he went outside and jumped over the balcony railing, according to the report.

Denver police ruled the death an accident and their investigation remains open.
Colorado law bans the sale of recreational marijuana products to people under 21. Possession by people under 21 is also against the law. Authorities said one of Pongi's friends was old enough to buy the cookie from a pot shop.
The medical examiner's office had Pongi's body tested for at least 250 different substances, including bath salts and synthetic marijuana, which are known to cause strange behavior. His blood tested positive only for THC, the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, according to the report.
One of Pongi's friends also tried the cookie but stopped after feeling sick, said Michelle Weiss-Samaras, a spokeswoman for the Denver County medical examiner's office.
The marijuana concentration in Pongi's blood was 7.2 nanograms of active THC per milliliter of blood. Colorado law says juries can assume someone is driving while impaired by marijuana if their blood contains more than 5 nanograms per milliliter of the chemical.
Officials at Northwest College in Powell, Wyo., say Pongi started taking classes as an exchange student in January. He was studying engineering.
"The Northwest College campus community continues to grieve after Levy's death," the college said in a statement. "All of us were deeply saddened by this tragic incident and feel for his family."

  4. propaganda rags that cater to political parties are not reliable news sources.

  5. Humans are fucked. Weed is the scapegoat.  :bongin:

  6. Marijuana edibles didn't cause that man to get a gun and kill his wife. This is just an article portraying marijuana in a negative light to help the prohibitionists.

  7. Exactly. It us humans that are fucked up. Not the weed itself. That retard that jumped off the balcony was stupid to begin with :bongin:

  8. Hogwash, the truth will always win. 5000 plus years and were overpopulated. Weed doesnothing but help people.

  9. Newspaper companies like Gannet (KUSA's parent) are deeply, historically rooted in prohibition due to their paper affiliations, and all the other market controls they have helped other companies push for over the years. We should not be at all surprised by their continuation of Reefer Madness 2.0. Their board members sit on all kinds of corporations which also have prohibitionist interests.
    Know your sources. Always.

  10. Yes, this is a shame. If more deaths continue to happen, people are gonna be like, "Ah Ha! Knew it. I knew people would go crazy if they legalized reefer. We can't have this legal in our state". Everybody is looking at Washington and Colorado to see how successful legalization is there, once they see dumb asses jumping off buildings, it won't convince them very well :S
