Small Tent Grow, Heat Related Help

Discussion in 'Grow Room Design/Setup' started by gingerb, Apr 16, 2014.

  1. Am currently at the week 4 of a first grow, with a small 60x60x200cm grow tent.
I'm running 400watt MH light with reflector, extractor fan with ducting to get rid of the warm air.
Plus I also have clip on 9" fan blowing over plants.

But I am having heat issues, temps sometimes raising up to 85/31c.
I've been leaving the front of the tent open when lights are on currently to try and keep temps down,
but its not doing much good. One plant seems to be coping ok, but other plant is canoing/cupping up badly on it's leaves.

I really did't think I would need an inline fan, but am starting to think i do now.
Can anyone give me any options to get my temp down???

  2. have lights on during the night when its cooler and off during the day when it is warmer.

  3. Good point, its idea ok if have tent fully closed as if open pushes out too much light which can be seen from windows at night.
More I've been reading is I may have to get cool tube if i am to use the tent correctly.

  4. Man, just get one or two small table/clips fans. You should put them down so they always push the cold low air up and out of the tent, you also should have a small vent hole down the tent and one on the top that way you'll have the best air circulation, it's one plant even one fan is good, it depends on the temp.

So If now the heat can rise to 31c you're not in the problem, one fan will drop the temp to 25 or28 and that's good.

    Happy growing! :)

  5. My tent is 16 inches square and 48 inches high. Its long and skinny. It sits in my closet for stealth. Running a 200 watt LED with the tent completely closed inside my closed closet will get me temps of 88-92 F. That's with a clip on fan. Took a 4 inch inline fan sucking out the hot air to bring my temps down to 80 F. Gotta have it.

Cheers, have actually just ordered a 4" inline fan off ebay. But gonna use it more for pushing cooler air into the tent.
Yep my tent has been open most of day, my clip fan is blowing out the hot air, my extractor is too high up in tent to do much at the
moment. I think am also going to get a bigger oscillating 12" fan also, as I want to get the temps down alot as close to 27c as poss.

Sucking hot air out at the top is more effective than blowing cool air in at the bottom. I don't understand why you think your extractor fan is too high to do much, as heat rises. If you had proper exhaust at the top, and proper intake (with or without a fan) at the bottom, I think you would see your heat issues mostly disappear.

  8. Island Hippie is most correct. My inline fan sits on top of my tent.  The port sleeves on top face inward leaving a flat surface on top of the tent. The fan's suction sits over the top of the open port. I use some ducting to hold the port sleeves open, otherwise the fans suction will collapse them thus plugging the hole. I leave the Velcro flaps open on the bottom screens for passive air intake. My temps are around 80 with RH of 50%. This is with the tent closed up in a closet with the doors closed. Very stealthy. Except the fan is loud. Looking to get a Duct silencer for that.

  9. I just think my extractor fan does't seem to be doing much currently and thought it may be too high in the tent.
Temps at top of tent are much cool, so the extractor is sucking out the hot air. I've got my extractor hung inside the tent with ducting
going out one of the vent holes of the tent. The only thing I think i need to tweak is the amount of ducting i have currently, it needs to much shorter as it only needs to go to an air vent in my wall.

I'll see how I go once i get the other intake fan I ordered yesterday.

  10.
The way you explain your setup seems different to the way i have my extractor. I've got my extractor mounted inside the tent and have
ducting going out of one of the top side vents of the tent. All seems to be working/sucking air, but as my temps have been so high I've not really tried closing the tent completely and opening my velcro flaps at the bottoms of the tent.

Do you also have a fan inside the tent, blowing on the plants?

  11. Yes one clip on blowing over the top of the canopy.

  12. Am still struggling got new 12" fan today with that installed in tent along with the clip on fan,
with tent all zipped up/closed my temps just shoot way past 30c.
This is with both flaps open at bottom of the tent.

My extractor fan & ducting is sucking out the hot air fine, I think its all down to my lights & reflector
as it does't have a cool tube. If I have too much ducting on my extractor, would that cause any problems?

I've still got a inline fan to be delivered to push cooler air into the tent, so hoping that may do some good.
    Advice anyone?

I could post a photo of my current setup if thats any good?

  13.
Temps shoot up to 35c to 36c when tent is closed and thats with x2 fans.
Also starting to think my extractor is not sucking enough hot air out of the tent.

  14. It doesn't matter how much you blow the hot air around the tent you've got to get it out. Your online will fix the problem, use it as the extraction.

  15. Already using an inline extractor fan with ducting, but its not powerful enough to take out the hot air when the tent is closed.
As soon as close up tent temps shoot way past 35c.
