  1. Thinking of getting a fish tank with a nice fish but idk what kind of tank or fish to get someone help me with cool fish ideas

  2. My pleasure!

First of all. How much money are you willing to devote to this hobby? And are you willing to upgrade?

A lot of people will buy something like an oscar or dinosaur bichir. They grow really big and then they dont know what to do with them. They require at least a 75 gallon at adult size, but probly 100+ if you want them to be happy.

Goldfish can grow over a foot long as well. They pollute your tank and eat all your plants and any fish small enough to fit in its mouth. Like guppies.

That being said. Here are some ideas for you.

    Tiny tank

Beta fish can live in small tanks. They are attractive and easy to care for.

    Small fish tank 20-30 gallons.

You can do guppies. Guppies are fun and easy to breed. They come in kany color variations. Selectivly breeding your own colors is a popular hobby.

You can do a nice community settup with like danios, tetras, mollies and other small tropucal fish.

Another option for small tanks (and even larger tanks) is glo fish. I have a glofish tank (40gallon) and its pretty sweet. Its still a work in progress but i hope to have glo tetras and glo danios as well as an underwater scorpion habitat. Since scorpions also.glow under black lights.

    Medium 40-50

A 40-50 gallon cant really hold any bigger fish than the 30 gallons. Other than a few like angelfish, most of the bigger fish want 55+ gallons mininun.

40-50 gallons IMO are best for having a mice size tank with lots of community fish. A 40 gallon breeder makes a nice community tank

    Larger tanks 75+ gallons.
A lot.more choices. There are freshwater sharks like the redfin shark. You can get big carnivorous fish like oscars, bichirs, cichlids and.wotnot.

Goldfish actually need big tanks. Dont get goldfish in a small tank

A big tank can also be just a big home for small fish. This is my goal for the hobby. I want a nice 150 gallon that i can have some schools of various small tropical fish. A veriety tank basically. Probly make is glow in the dark too.

Oh yea and i cant forget shrimp tanks! Shrimp breeding is a pretty big hobby too. And you can find all sorts of freshwater shrimp online. Green. Blue. Red. Yellow. There are even these fancy japanese shrimps that sell for 100's to over a thousand dollars a pop.

There are also black or blue fresh water lobters. You can get crabs.

You can even get a turtle and feed it fish.

One more option (my personal favorite) is aquaponics.
Normally aquaponics doesnt use a fish tank. Its usually a large scale hydroponics operation that raises fish as food in the water. This replaces the need for hydroponic nutrients.

Ive found though, that if you set it.up correctly, you can use a fish tank for aquaponics. In stead of growing fish for food and vegetables, you are using a display fish tank, and growing something like lucky bamboo, or houseplants, even orchids.

I hope i stimulated your mind.

I highly reccomend live plants for your tank. They help keep it clean, and compete with algae for nutrients reducing the ammount of algae you need to scrub. They also provide oxygen and snacks for your fish. And they usually come with snails which can be a mice decoration in your tank. Ive got some cool looking snails now. Even an orange one with a white shell. All from plants.

  4. Before purchasing ANY pet, you should do at least a week of reading about the species you want.

Coolness should never be priority-one, these are living creatures and deserve good care.

I see too many people get basses or other large fish, then get tired of having responsibility, then dumping them into park lakes where they either die a slow agonizing death, or they become a nuisance and damage the ecology of the lake.

  5. Coolness can be priority one. As long as you are ready to je responsible
