New York Diesel (Day 45F) Is It Time To Start Flushing Yet??

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by Reggae420, Apr 14, 2014.

  1. Hey guys,

45 days into flowering and almost all of the fan leaves at the bottom have dried up and fallen off. The fan leaves up top are starting to die to. I do not think there is anything wrong with the plant I just think this is the normal progression of flowering.

The big nugs still smell a tiny bit musky but my humidity is never higher than 30% so I think it must be the strain or something and it will be fine once it is cured, I really don't think I have mold.

Just wanted to get an idea of about how long I had left until harvest. I don't want to wait too long to flush as I know that is a classic mistake. If anyone could give me an idea that would be great.

    Thanks guys!!

  2. Yeah, I'd flush it now. The diesels I've grown are actually fairly quick finishers. Usually by day 52 or 53 I'm chopping them and get terrific smoke out of them. No need to go much longer than that, IMO. Trichromes only need to be about 10% to 20% milky to chop.

  3. I grow auto's and only flush when I encounter a problem. I've not seen nor tasted a difference otherwise, so I stopped doing it.

  4. Okay cool.

The site says 10-12 weeks but that definitely seemed a little long to me.

I don't see any of the pistitls turning orange yet but I will start flushing now and plan for an end of April harvest.

    Any other opinions?

  5. I'm not sure man, definitely not questioning you since you have done it before but I have always heard that flushing is one of, if not the most important step before harvesting your plant.

Interesting to see somebody who does not really believe in it. Thanks for your insight.

  6. To each their own. I feel the same about going dark before harvesting. I've not seen any noticeable difference, so I don't bother with that either. I'd rather be planted with another run on it's way, than wait around for a couple of days. Just preference for my setup and what I have experienced. My potency and yield doesn't suffer, so I go off what works best for me. If a situation doesn't show a real change, I simply won't continue the exercise in futility. One thing I learned from the massive amount of research I've conducted on marijuana, "Perception" is a huge part of cultivating and just like anything else in our lives, perception has to be weeded out.

  7. Interesting. Well in terms of readiness how far do you think until i'll be ready to harvest?

I can put up some more pictures if it would help.

  9. You need something like this. www.amazon.com/Carson-MicroMax-60X-100X-Microscope-MM-200/dp/B000P8AUMU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1397568190&sr=8-1&keywords=60x+scope to check trichomes. When the trichomes are either cloudy, cloudy with some amber or cloudy and amber or mostly amber depending on high you desire, you will be ready. One thing about strains, whatever the published time frame, you can usually add a week or two more. Next time be sure to include the strain name in post.

Yes, please. More pictures. Possibly turn off the LED and turn on a regular, incandescant light and turn on flash for your snapshots so we can see better. If you don't have any red pistils yet, you still have a few weeks to go. As a rule of thumb, I see what the breeder says and use that as an indicator of when to really start checking closely (trichomes). In my experience, if the breeder says 60 days, it usually takes closer to 65. I'd say you're at least 2 weeks, and more like 3 away from harvest, but the trichomes should be the deciding factor.

I've tried the extended dark right before harvest with no noticeable difference too, so I will scrap that this grow. A flush, though, is something I will do everytime. Even if it's just a 3-day. Gotta get those nutes out of it fo sho.

  11. I actually have the exact microscope you posted but it's so hard to get a good look.

Last time I checked a few days ago they were all clear so I guess I have some time left.

  12.
Okay man the lights turn on at 6:30 so i'll take some more pictures then.

2 or 3 weeks is what I was thinking so i'll be happy if that's how long is left.

Will get those pictures for you later tonight.

    Thanks

  13. Cool. I will usually either go in a few minutes early or even just turn off the grow light for pictures. I have 2 regular lights in the room that I turn on for pictures, and the 2 minutes the grow light is off don't hurt a thing.

Regarding your scope, I tried those little scopes. I got one from Radio Shack and another from a grow store. Truthfully, the 40x loupe works the best for me. It doesn't make the trichs as large, but they are still easier to see compared to those scopes that have such a small field of view it's damned near impossible to get it centered where you want.

  14. I took the new pictures. Check them out here and let me know what you think

I have a 40x loupe and will try that out when the lights come on. Was not able to see them with it last time I checked but that may have changed.
