Is There A Rep System Available For This Board?

  1. And if so, can we get one? Just something so that at a quick glance see what the general concensus is on a person? The rep bars worked great until the ability to neg rep was taken away. People really cared about their rep back then, and they didnt want to lose any by being a troll. Ive been gone for a while now, but came back and it just seems like people just dont care. Theres nothing keeping score and nothing to set you apart. I just feel like the place was much more friendly and less hostile when there was rep.

  2. We had them but we couldn't play nice. This is why we can't have nice things.

  3. I remember having the dark green and light green ones a couple years back and then only Old School members had the ability to neg rep, but I guess its all gone now. Too bad, because theres a bunch of shit heads Id like to throw a red bar onto.

  4. It wasn't rep that made the place friendlier, but rather the fact that it was a smaller, tighter knit community...as GC gets bigger, it gets less personal in general as most members don't know each other...or at least that's my take...

Negative rep was taken away as it was being abused...people were getting neg repped when they posted an opinion that someone else didn't agree with, who cares whether it was valid or not...RMJL was having to deal with multiple complaints every day from people complaining that they were neg repped...

Since the change to IPB software in May 2013, rep as we knew it on VBS has pretty much disappeared...all we have now is a like system, without the ability to "dislike"...we are trying to build on positive reinforcement, not negative...

Is the system perfect? No, but neither was the rep system...to be honest, it was probably even more flawed, because quite often people were building their rep by posting picks or trying to be funny...a lot of people's rep was not based on how helpful or knowledgeable they were, but rather on popularity...

The best way to evaluate other members is to go by what they contribute to the community, by the quality of their individual posts as opposed to a bar that they built up by posting pics of scantily clad women...
