Registration Requirement Recommendation

Discussion in 'General Forum Feedback' started by BurnAFewDown, Apr 13, 2014.

  1. So I already posted this in the General section before realizing there was a feedback section, so sorry for the double post.

Hey there blades, this is mostly directed at the mods but would like others input too. So I feel like everyday people are creating accounts for the soul purpose of asking a certain question, and if they stay or not is irrelevant. I'm all for new people making accounts to have their questions answered because I spend most of my time in the Tokers q&a section and enjoy helping people learn new things. The problem is, I find a lot of people are making accounts and asking questions (and responding to posts) with content that break community guidelines (ie. forum rules) I'm starting to get tired of this honestly and I know its impossible to completely stop.

Here's my recommendation to this problem. It sounds like most people go through the registration process without reading the guidelines (cuz let's be honest, who really reads the terms and conditions of contracts, especially the 10 page ones). To encourage people to read the rules, would it be possible to put a little quiz at the end with like 2 or 3 questions that the person is required to answer to register? This would force them to at least skim through the rules looking for the answers.

    My recommended questions would be:

    1. What drugs are allowed to be discussed in the forum?
    (weed, alcohol, cigarettes, caffeine)

    Something along the lines of
    2. What is the result of personal attacks? (ie. name calling, flaming, etc)

    3. Some other commonly broken rule related question.

What are your guy's opinion on this? Would you be for or against this and would it be possible? They do this kinda of thing with college student loans so it forces you to look through the info for the answer. I think it would be effective in keeping newbies from posting inappropriate info on their first posts.

  2. Yeah, I don't see this happening.

  3. I'm just curious, why?

  4. I gotta take a test just to register?  Fuck that.

  5. if this would of been implemented when i joined i probably wouldn't have joined i feel it will drive new people away even those who do read and follow the rules i always thought a little pop up would be nice like once you click register a little window opens up that just has the most comonly broken rules then you can just click ok but people normally read pop ups if its short and i know it puts more work on our understaffed mods but honestly if you can't read the rules on your own and you post something you shouldn't then imo you deserve to be banned however i always though a resource link would be nice just a page filled with links to other sites that allow for discussion that isnt allowed on this site or somthing along those lines

If you read the rules, it would take 2 seconds to answer

If people get deterred because they are forced to read the rules, why would we even want them? I do like your idea of a pop up at the end though because people would be more likely to read it.

"if you can't read the rules on your own and you post something you shouldn't then imo you deserve to be banned" that just creates more work for our mods and why even let it get to that point. To me that's like going out on a muddy day then going back into your house and getting your floors all dirty then having to clean it up. Why go through all that work when you can just take your shoes off when you first walk in the door.

I'm just posting this because I find myself ending up in more threads with people asking about different drugs and flaming people calling em douches and what not, than I do in threads with ppl following the rules. this is generally all by ppl with under 200 posts and have been around for less than 4 months

  8. i find as long as i stay out of q&a its not so bad i also find alot of the time its coming from people who are posting through the phone app they usually end up posting in the wrong section and either are looking for the growing forum or are asking bad questions if i see sent from iPhone or anything like that i usually don't even read the post

  9. True true, haha probably my own fault then because probably 3000 of my posts are in the tokers q&a section, I like to help the younger newer members out when I can because a lot of thing that get posted in their as advice is shitty misinformation by ppl who know nothing more than the OP asking the question. I hate seeing fallacies spread as fact and try and keep it to a minimum. I'm not implying I know every, by all means I don't, but most of the posters are 16 year olds that think they know more than everyone else out there.

    /rant haha
