Mini-Fridge Purps, 12/12 from seed

Discussion in 'Indoor Grow Journals' started by rhoadie27, Apr 12, 2014.

  1. So I had a couple of plants growing, and a journal going in micro-grows. But those died, and then the new ones were male, so now I have a new batch of purp seeds going. I've got one plant that's 15 days old, and 2 seeds germinating now. It's an old Black and Decker fridge that my parents got for me when I was going away for college, but it was pretty much broken when I turned it into my little grow space. It's small (About 1 foot x 1 foot of space) which is why I'm going 12/12fs.

Here is some info on the grow:

Soil: Miracle gro Seed starters soil that I flushed out, and mixed with some dolomite lime and perlite.

Lights: 72W CFL (Actual, not equivelant)

Strain: Unknown sorta. I know what the buds look like, and I know there should be some purple in these buds. But as far as the type of plant, how fast or big it gets, or yield is completely unknown.

Nutes: None really, I've been giving it bottled water every couple of days for the most part, I did give it a 1/3 diluted dose of Miracle gro Orchid better-bloom (11-35-15) two days ago.

I Think i'll try topping at the 4th or 5th node, and then doing a semi-scrog.

I know one of the pics shows it at 88 degrees, but it is rarely at that temperature. It's mostly between 82-84 degrees.

  3. Decided to top her at the 4th node. Hope I didn't fuck it up too bad.

Sorry for the double post lol. Phone glitch!

  5. Looking good. You'll get some new shoots from that top, hope for 4, but be happy with 2
Saw where no ones taken a look at your journal and i felt bad for ya so i popped on in!! Its looking good so far. Your nutes that you list will do you better in flower. Try and find a higher N level nute, may as well stick with a MG product since your using them now.
Whats the spectrum of your light? 72 watts(actual) is a decent wattage. Go ahead and put a Y splitter on you light rig and toss another bulb in there, get it up to 100 watts. How about a size up on your pot? You've topped it so you may want to upsize in 4-5 days. Utilize that rack in you fridge and really scrog it out for a nice bushy yeilder!!!
You know what? Im subbing in. I think this is gonna be a good little plant to watch.
Psssst...btw...take a browse through my journals if ya want. ;)

Thanks. Appreciate the reply. I've got 2 Y splitter's in there now, with 4 bulbs alltogether. 2 23W, and 2 13W (One's a soft white and ones a hard white). I'm not exactly sure of the spectrum since I threw the packs out.

My temperatures already get up into the 80's most of the time, and I can only assume it will get worse during the summer, so I think I'm gonna stick with just 72 watts. It's such a small space, so I assume there's a lot of reflectivity going on, although I might add some reflectors made from beer cans.

This is a REALLY REALLY tight budget, (Maybe spent between $30-$50 on everything, and have virtually no money left to spend until the summer) so I was wondering if anyone knew a cheap way to keep the temp's down? I have these re-usable acrylic ice cubes, and was thinking of making some sort of plastic contraption to keep the ice cubes behind the intake fan. But this would get annoying as Id probably have to re-freeze the ice cubes all day. So i'm open to ideas.

ALSO, is there a link to your journal?

  9. Day 21

The topping worked out beautiful (Although I think it's more of a fim I think).

Will probably be able to tell sex in the coming week. There was however a light leak last night, hope it didn't fuck anything up too too bad.

I also found some discoloration on one of the bottom leaves. Anyone know what it is?

Actually, upon further inspection and research, it looks like a phosphorous overdose. Which sucks because I gave it some more nutes yesterday, but I'm gonna stop doing that for a while and see if i notice improvement.

I'll probably flush it out tomorrow if I notice it spreading to any other leaves. I fear it might be starting to.

  11. If it is a phosphorous deficiency, which it does look like from the pic. I would flush it for the next 3-7 feedings depending on how bad it is. When you flush make sure your PH is anywhere from 6.2-7.0 that's when phosporous gets absorbed best by the roots.

After a few flushing new leafs that grow in should show no signs of phosphorous deficiency but the old leafs will probably never recover so pay attention to new growth.

  12.
I seem to be getting various results from my research online. You think it's a deficiency? Not an overdose?

If it's a deficiency, then it's probably because the seed starter mix didn't have much phosphorous, and I wasn't aware that it needed some yet, so I only added the first dose of nutrients the other day.

My question I guess, is if it's a deficiency, shouldn't I continue to add nutes?

  13. I do think it is some sort of deficiency can't see the picture to good cause I'm on a very small screen. What does the leaf that's effected feel like? Does it feel like it's drying out, like crisp?

No I would stop nutes right away tell I found out exactly what is going on cause they can create more problems. I would start a flush for at least 3 days. Me personally I would do a 5-7 day flush cause I don't like to take any chances but that's just me. Just make sure you PH is 6.0-7.0 when flushing so it can absorb the nutes already in the soil.

  14. Dude 80 degrees is too hot....sick grow though, I'm subbed. I wanna see a 12/12fs yeild

And a pH of 6.2 - 7 is way to high. 7 is too base. 6.3 is optimum but 6.0 is the general rule of thumb. In a pot that size, flush once. STOP feeding nutrients, your plant is too small.

You topped to early and stressed your plant, plus its 10 degrees too hot, you're feeding it too early and your lights are too far away. No deficiencies.

Get an exhaust fan, or at least put a fan in there big enough to cool it down in there and get rid of the heat spots. Flush her once to get the nutes out, balance your water to 6.0-6.2, stop feeding her, and lower the lights to about 3" away and she'll make a full recovery and blow your mind with growth, trust me bro.

  16. Ok, well yea the leaf is definitely crisp to the touch, and the problem is starting to spread to other leaves, so i've flushed it this morning. Will see how it works over the next couple of days.

And @ Mr. President: There is really no way right now to get the temps better, except the method of leaving a cup full of ice cubes right under the intake fan. It's too small of a fridge, and almost air-tight, so the temps are rough. But i've heard of CFL growers with temps in the 80's the whole time and they've been fine. So my goal is too make sure the temps don't go above 85 very often.

I'm thinking of also replacing one of the fans (Exhaust) I guess with a really powerful fan. Does anyone know of any SUPER Strong PC fans that aren't absurdly expensive?

  17. Day 24

Well, some good news all around. The discoloration on the leaves has not spread one millimeter since the flush out. The topping/fimming worked out great (I believe I have 4 new tops), and I THINK that I see a tiny white hair or two growing out of one of the upper nodes, although it's way too small to be conclusive, so hopefully I didn't jinx myself.

My last two males starting to show their balls around day 24 and 25, so my next update will hopefully include some kind of gender.

    Attached Files:

  18. Day 26 - I'm almost positive I have a female. One of the pics shows and up close view of what I think is a white hair (the pic labeled 'femalequestionmark'). Although the quality is not the clearest, and the hairs are still all really small, so i'll be watching real close the next couple of days to try and spot some more.

  19. I know a little hard to see, but I just installed some acrylic glass just under the lights to prevent the plants from touching the lights.
