Spiderweb in my fishtank

Discussion in 'Pets' started by yurigadaisukida, Apr 12, 2014.

  1. Ok so there is this thing that appeared in my fish tank. It resembles a spider web. I dont know of any under water spiders though.

My first though was like dog hair pr something that didnt get sucked up in the filter. Instead got hooked on plants. But my tank has a lid...

The thing is bigger now. My only thoughts are that it could be a fungus or algae. But its white not green.

    Anyone see this before?

Its hard to see in picture but look closly at the top. Youll see the fuzzy weblike stuff covering my java moss

You can see it pretty clear in this pic. See the strand connecting the two plants?

  3. Looks like a thin string of algae to me. I've seen similar things in my tank when I had live plants. I can't keep real plants anymore my fish just eat them :(

  4. Yea I've had some strange algae as well

  5. It's algae.

  6. The reason i have live plants is for the fish to eat.

Usually they grow fast enough to provide, but my goldfish got huuuuuge and destroyed one of my tanks.

Now i just have guppies in that tank.

  7. I love guppies but I had them in a tank with other fish n they went crazy n ganged up on the other fish...😳 it was total carnage, like ethnic cleansing all that was left was guppies

  8. lol.

My friend said the same thing. I never had a problem. But most of my other fish are bigger.

This might explain what happened to my danios tho

  9. Well this promted me to do some web searching

I cant really find anything about guppies being agressive, except for a few personal accounts of individual guppies.

I guess like any animal, individuals can have different personalities. So its possible to get an agressive individual of any species.

I didnt find anything about guppues ganging up on danios

Guppies are extremely aggressive fish.  they nip fins and harass other fish, especially female guppies.  Any small grey-ish fish is seen as a female guppy to males, and they will repeatedly chase and attempt gonopodium insertions until their "mate" dies of stress.

They're known to eradicate all other fish due to stress when they're introduced into bodies of water.

In fact, females will take their aggression out on other fish when continually harassed by males.

  11. I'm glad I'm not a small gray fish then.

Damn. Being a guppy sucks ass.

  12. Damn. I might have to find a new place for my male guppies. They are in my glofish tank right now.

They dont bother the tetras, but my danios are long gone

  13. Female guppies spend their entire adult life pregnant unless you seperate them.

All guppies do if fuck and eat.
