So ive done my homework on breeding guppies. Ive been breeding them succesfully for almost a year now. But its random. Just a bunch of feeder guppies, and some nice blue/yellow ones a friend bred and gave me. Now its time to start selective breeding as i have many awsome looking guppies, and some plane silver ones. But i hear a female guppy can stay pregnant off the same sperm for like 3 months. Is this true? Does that mean i need to quaranteen all my females for a full 3 months untill they are ready for selective breeding? Is there no way to "clean" them out for lack of a better term? About the only thing I know to speed things up is to raise the temperature a bit! Colder temps slow guppy fetal development, while warmer temps speed it up- that will only get you a few days, though! Just wait it out! Also using young males is often desirable- the older the male, the longer the tail, which slows the males down, making it harder for them to mate successfully. (My first job was at an aquarium shop and I always have aquariums!) Granny
Thanks granny. Unfortunatly i dont have a huge ammount of guppies so not much choice in males. Ill try to use the youngest males of whatever colors/types i want Sent from my LG-E739 using Grasscity Forum mobile app
