using 4X12 inch pieces of pipe for hempy buckets?

  1. Hi everybody!
I just finish up my first grow, I have chosen me two mothers and want to try sog for my next run. I have some ideas of how I will do it and would appreciate any thoughts, criticism or suggestions for my plan.

I have some 4inch drain pipe lying around, I hoped that I might use them as hempy buckets, if I cut them in one foot lengths I will have about one gallon of volume. Would this work or would the pipe be to high and narrow?
How many should I have pr sq feet? I could fit 40 in my 6sq.ft grow space but I think 4 pr sq.ft is better?

Also I'm very curious as to what I can expect yield-wise, the strain I'm growing is kinda old-school it's K2 from buy dutch seeds which I think really is nirvana, my light is a 400 hps as it is a sog grow I will not veg 'em just let the clones root and then switch to 12/12.

So anyone with thought questions or coments out there?

  2. I have no idea, but I hope someone can answer. Your plan has peaked my curiosity.

  4. Thanks for the bump man, but since nobody seems to know I just gona try. I bought blinds for the pipes today, also cut square bases for them to add stability and even spacing.
I'm also gona let the runoff-hole go directly into tubes so I can flush witout having to remove 24 plants one by one. In time i hope to add a automated watering system, I have allredy placed a resovoare underneath the botom of my cabinet with a pump in it.

I cut 30 clones yesterday wich are rooting in root plugs now. I'm gona plant 6 in soile and vege them until i finish the sog the 24 I'm gona put in the "hempy-tubes" as soon as I can see roots at the botom of the plugs. my only concerne is that maybee it will take loong for the plants to reach the resovoare in the botom of the pipe, maybe I should give them a week or so of 18/6 for the roots to grow.

Anyway I will try to give some updates as the grow goes along, any thoughts and wisdom is stil greatly apriciated.

  5. Well, keep us posted on how it goes.

  6. I did a screen of green years ago, with similar 4 inch pvc pipe at 12 inches high ...12 to the square foot, the best crowding I done as yet ..but mine was soil unlike your coca, I intend to do again this time using 60 day autos, as they will go better with a deeper pot!

  7. So I'm not the first to think of this then.
do you remember how it turned out yield-wise? I'm hoping for 10 to 15 grams pr plant. 360g under a 400w light for my scond grow would be amazing! (not that it's any chance of it actualy hapening)

ps: it's only posible to fit 9 Ø4 inch pipes in a square fott

  8. Wouldn't it be a lot easier to just use a flood and drain table? The watering is automated then too. You could still grow in perlite but clay balls offer more air to the roots. It needs watering several times a day but as it will be automated you won't have to worry about watering at all

  9.

It probably would be easier but I had the parts for this and wanted to try it just for fun. Also I'm planing to make a automated dripp system, alredy have the reservoir in place with a pump in it, just need to buy the drippers and some tubing and I'm sett to go. :yay:   Mot sure if I'm gona bother tho, vil take me like 10 minutes once or twice a day watering them and I like spending time in the closet  :p

Anyway my clones are doing good, stil in plugs, but starting to see roots on most of them so far 100% success. Will be planting them in their "hempy-tubes" friday or saturday I think.

  10. Cool man, get some photos up, I'd love to see the set up

  11.
I think it's more important to take the plant dimensions into consideration rather than just the containers, especially ones this narrow.  You might be able to crowd 9 4inch pipes per sq ft, but if your doing it right that's not enough room for the plants IMO.  If you want 10-15 grams per plant(which is reasonable), you'll need much more sq footage per plant.  I grow in 3/4 gallon containers ATM and can fit 8 comfortably under a 250w hps in just under 6 sqft of total space.  Wouldn't suggest crowding any more in there.

But then again I've never grown in containers with such dramatic dimensions.  As a soil grower I've found the roots grow best in more standard dimension container.

    It sounds an interesting plan.

Please post it up if you build it.
