Lets talk fiber arts (knitting, crocheting, sewing, felting, embroidery, quilting...)

  1. I knit a ton (like, daily, usually 2+ hours), crochet a little, and just got a sewing machine.

    What do you do?

  2. i make hemp based necklaces and bracelets with my girlfriend, weve had some small success selling them in a few shops locally.

do you do it purely for fun? id seriously look into etsy if you havent, if nothing else its a good way to recoup materials and then some. if you do video game related patterns people there eat it up. 8-bit characters are a fairly easy pattern too.

  3. I don't really like working to a deadline, or kn itting something I don't feel like knitting at the time, so I haven't looked at having an etsy shop.

  4. I kinda ad-lib-ed this, after poking around on Ravelry for some inspiration and not finding exactly what I wanted.

  5. I've got some pretty bad laddering up the arch of the foot.  I think this project is going to suffer from second sock syndrome.

  6. I love your sock! And that yarn is so beautiful. What kind of yarn did you use? I love the rainbow.

And as you know I crochet and have an etsy. :) To share my fiber art. I kinda want to get into sewing more and make some hand sewn/ crocheted purses. I want to learn how to line things too.

  7. The grey is Knitpicks' Stroll in Basalt Heather.  The rainbow is Poems Sock, unknown colorway.

I've started in on a custom owl hat that I donated for a raffle, and have discovered that I can't find the pattern anywhere.  Which is a problem, since I'm the one who wrote it, so if I can't find it, it's nowhere!

  8. Sounds cute! I love owls, I saw a great horned owl last night. Are you good at free handing work? I've been getting better at it lately.

  9. It's more difficult to freehand with knitting than crocheting.  But I do ad-lib a bunch, especially with short rows.  And with everything I knit for my youngest, because her body is very oddly sized.

  10. I envy those who can knit. I just can't pick it up, crocheting on the other hand I picked up like nothing.

I have been crocheting for just over a year now, I have made a lot of things anything between slippers/socks, blankets, hats, shawls, hand warmers, animal hats/hood-scarves, cowls, scarves, baskets, animal throw pillows and my latest rainbow hoodie. I also dabble a fair bit with sewing, I inherited an old but amazing sewing machine with a lot of the necessities along with a few totes full of fabric (some quite retro). Lately I have been dabbling with fabric marbling (I intend to marble fabric to be turned into a hoodie soon), dying my own yarn and various other crafty things. I REALLY want to get into spinning my own yarn but that probably won't happen until I can devote a room to my crafting and afford the supplies because with this many hobbies materials can be expensive.
Can you tell I have been laid off for a few months? These hands don't sit still very long, unless I cat happens which can't be avoided.

  11. If you're a crocheter, and you want to learn to knit, find someone to teach you to knit continental.  Everyone I know who learned to crochet first had trouble learning English style (yarn in the right hand) but picked up Continental much easier!

I have heard that before! I just need to find someone who a) can do it b ) can teach me. I was able to pick up crocheting through various youtube videos and tutorials, but knitting is one that I need someone to dedicate a solid hour or two to teach me. I pick up on stuff really fast if I have someone walking me through it. Teaching myself I'd end up making the same mistakes over and over again without even realizing it.
