    Hello everybody.

I have just harvested my first grow and It was pathetic thanks to my growing conditions.

I've decided I want to build a set up that's efficient and effective.

I've come up with an idea of building a large cabinet. The cabinet will be divided into two halfs one being for flowering and the other being broke down into a clone, veg and drying chamber so I can keep everything contained in one small space.

I've done the math for my set up and I know my square footage calls for 25,000 lumens. Originally I was going to go for a CFL set up (using 16 100watt equivalents) but have since decided for simplicity it would be easier to just get an HPS for flower and still use the CFLs for veg and clone.

Long story short here is the basic design that I'm going for... 1396906210464.jpg

Now I'm having trouble deciding on a light. I'm really not looking to spend more than 250 for the HPS light set up. I like virtual sun it's got good prices and shipping is free (big deal for me).

Now I'm seeing that all I need is the 400watt HPS to set myself well above my needed lumen threshold but what concerns me is the reflector.

The length of my chamber Is 30 inches and the length of the reflector is 22 so what does that mean for the 8 inches that sit outside the reflector? I plan on having two plants in flower at once and to me it seems like a hood system like this would just block light from evenly spreading out. This hood system to me looks like it would be great to concentrate light on one plant but if I center it what happens to the Colas that are out side of its 22 inch reflector are they just shaded while the center Colas recieve more concentrated light than they could ever use?

    Really stuck here..

  2. I'm thinking about getting just a cool tube with wing reflector because it doesn't limit the length as much as a hood reflector would but I'm just trying to get better ideas on which light to get without breaking my budget.

My demensions (for flowering) are 78" height
    30" width
    20" deep

I have a little wiggle room with the depth If I need it. But how should I set this up?

  3. I'd go with a cool tube, sans wings.  I just don't think the wings are necessary in that space. I have a 400 watter in a tent that's about 3' x 3' x 6.5' and use a cool tube with no wings. I get fine light coverage. One thing to keep in mind: give yourself extra space to ducting. I didn't take that into account in my current tent and it was tight. I made it work but I didn't think about ducting ahead of time.

  4. Alright man thanks. Mind if I asked where you got your setup?

It seems like a 400watt and 1000watt hps set ups have the exact same hood/reflectors... I was under the impression a 400watt had its own special hood

  5. Yeah brother no worries. I'm a big fan of Amazon Prime. If you're not a prime member, I highly recommend. As a grower, free two day shipping on virtually everything is fantastic. I get some stuff from my local shop but get the majority on Amazon. I got my current ballast (Apollo 400w MH/HPS dimmable), my inline fan (450 CFM 6" Hydrofarm), tent (dunno), fan speed controller, and a few others off Amazon.

  6. I had originally picked out a set off Amazon but everybody was saying it was crap (it was an iPower kit)... Long story short I was in fear that all there equipment was crap. Htg wants to rape me with shipping So I unfortunately won't be ordering from them..
