Alright, I have to say this was one of the best books I've read. It sucked me in from the start and I had a hard time setting it down. I recommend this book to anyone who has a passing interest in dystopian novels, particularly science fiction based dystopian novels. Paranoia seems to be a consistent theme in the PKD books I've read which is probably a tribute to his own mental illness. There's some light drug use, but it's not as heavily focused upon as in A Scanner Darkly. There's a lot of political themes throughout the book, although, I certainly wouldn't consider it a political novel. And, of course, mental illness is a giant focus on the book by nature of the story alone. For anyone that has read it; Spoiler My favorite character has to be, by far, Lord Running Clam. The whole idea of the Ganymedean species is fantastic. It's great how their unique ability allows PKD to make use of his paranoia theme between Chuck Rittersdorf and Bunny Hentman. I also love how you're pretty much left without a sense of 'who's good' and 'who's bad', it's all ambivalent So anyone read it before? Or any PKD? I'm totally open to this thread being a general Phil K Dick thread.
Hey man! I started science fiction recently and read PKD. I read "Flow, my tears, said the policeman" and "Ubik". I have to say they were amazing books. Dealing with concepts such as what is reality. And the setting is quite nice. Have you read those two ?
