Northern Lights - Micro grow

Discussion in 'Indoor Grow Journals' started by Sam You L, Apr 4, 2014.

  1. Welcome everyone!

I've grown a few times before, inside and out but only with bag seeds. Although they were very nice plants, I didn't really like the fact I didn't know what I was growing!

    So,

I got my self, 2 Royal Queen Seeds - Northern Lights (Fem).

I put them both into wet tissue and they both popped within the first 2 days.
Yesterday I planted them into Gold Label - Special light mix and have them in a propagator, lights on 24/7 at the moment.

One seed is just about to break above ground.

    Equipment wise
1 x 125w blue cfl (have 2 more both are blue still).
Some cheap 14w extractor but it's doing good.

    Soil
Gold Label - Special light mix.
John Inns no.3 Mature plant compost.

Nutes (I Always use rain water)
Plagron; Terra Grow, Bloom and green sensation.
Advanced nutrients; Hobbyist and expert grower bundles.

Will get some pictures up as soon as they show leaves ;)

Heard of this strain a lot but don't know much about it.

Please feel free to leave any questions, criticism and/or advice.

    Thanks!

    :bongin:

  2. Sorry for the late reply!
My camera is broke so I had to use a friends phone lol sorry about the poor quality.

I've been watering them with plain rain water and yesterday I watered them and added 1ml of Rhizotonic and 1 ml of AN B-52, to 1 litre.

Lights have been on 18/6 and extractor is on 24/7.
Really need a fan in there though.

    Will update soon.

    Any input appreciated! :D

    Looking good dude!
Remember to be careful not to over water them ;)
You may want to think about investing in a red bulb for flower time! 2700k colour temp!

Any chance of a little more info on setup, cab size and your full nute lineup? (i'm sort of guessing at PC case from the pics but its hard to tell!)

    Cheers man!

Yeah I will ;) The reason they look a bit droop n the soil is soaked is because I stayed away and they got a bit dry. I took that pic just after I watered em.
I'm not 100% sure what I'm doing about flower lights but I have a 96w 4 bulb (2700k) so I might use that as well as my veg bulb.

I'm actually growing in a wardrobe.
    The size of area I'm using is L28" x H34" x D19"
    for nutes I have

Plagron: Bloom, Grow & Green Sensation (GS costs a bomb)
Advanced Nutrients: Voodoo juice, Piranha, B-52, Bud candy, Big bud, Overdrive & Final phase.
And I have some Canna Rhizotonic but looking on the back it appears to be 2 years out of date haha wtf!

Any thing else you wanna know I'd be more than happy to explain.

    Thanks for dropping in  :bongin:

  5. Ahh, no worries on the watering dude.

Yea just pop a 2700k bulb in with the blue when your coming into flower, the red helps with flowering!

Dont know too much about Plagron nutes tbh, but i think what you have is a 2 part base nute, grow and bloom (is it terra (pink label) or algar (green label)
And green sensation is an add-on 'booster' nute i believe (yea, once you leave base nutes they start getting expensive!)

    Your AN nutes:
Voodoo, b-52, big bud, overdrive are from the 'hobbyist' add-on
Piranha, bud candy, final phase are from the 'expert' add-on
There are also another 2 add-ons packs in the range, Pro and Grand Master!

They should really be used with one of the AN ph perfect 'base' nute range:
    Grow/Bloom/Micro (3 part)
    Sensi A&B grow/sensi A&B bloom (4 part)
Connoisseur A&B (super premium 2 part)

Its not really recommended to mix different brands or ranges of nute, crap loads of chem's being mixed up is never a good idea unless they tell you to!

Im not saying bin it, if its worked ok for the last few grows then use it up as its too expensive to waste!
But id suggest getting one of the Ph perfect base nutes when you have used up the plagron.
The ph perfect nutes are pretty good, no messing around with ph checking and adjusting just feed and sit back.

  6. I got all of these nutes for free though :D There is a topic some where that has a load of company emails, so I sent emails to quite a few asking for free samples but not as blunt as that, I made up a story lol
Only Plagron and AN sent some samples and one company said they will send some to my nearest retailer and they'll send them to me but I never heard back.

I was quite pleased with the last grow so yeah I'll probably just stick with em.
I only have Ph paper but when I add the base nutes it stays around 7 more towards 6. The rain water here is 7 also.

Thanks for the advice by the way!

The AN nutes that you have all have a PH buffering agent in them to keep it somewhere around 6 for hydro and 6.5 for soil. As they are suitable as hydroponic and soil nutes i have no idea how it buffers them correctly, but it seems to work really well!

Im on tap water left to stand for 24-48 hours before use, and my water ph is a pretty constant 6.4~6.6 straight out of the tap so my nutes dont even need to work hard at buffering lol (when i started i was unaware of my tap water ph, but it turned out to be perfect :D)

The only down side is im in a rural location and occasionally the tap water comes through with the ppm off the chart!
the water runs dirty, like you've just got out of the bath dirty!
So i have a couple of 2L bottles more than i need just in case there are a couple of days of grotty looking water coming through!

  8. Oh yeah sorry it's Terra grow and bloom which I have.

Yeah I never used to check ph but with rain water I'm sure you can't go too wrong.

I have used tap water a few times because I have a rain catcher thing on my front garden and I think it looks to hot if people are out n I go out filling up bottles lol Sounds para? but I'm more of a 'better to be safe than sorry' person.

Do you have any journals I could look at?

Gunna give em some grow nutes today at 1/4 strength and gunna re-pot like tomorrow or something.

Will get some pics up tonight or Thurs morning. :D

  9. Update.

They were going a bit root bound so I repotted them a couple days ago, they perked back at first but now there is a lil problem with the leafs clawing, I think it's either too much N or a little too much water.

Any one got any other ideas feel free to chime in.

I'll see how they progress and will keep updated.

    Peace!  :bongin:

Its not excess N, that turns the leaves very dark green, almost to the point they look black in extreme N toxicity.

There may be some overwatering, the leaves do look a bit droopy. It could be the beginning sign of overwatering, let them dry out properly and see what happens.

Yeah when I repotted I did give them quite a bit of water.
But most of the leafs are not actually drooping. It's just the biggest leaves that are. (Put them on the window sill so they turned to it and now the leafs are a bit twisted lol that on the new picture)

Before I repotted they were dropping, as you pointed out, it could have been over-water but I don't think It was as I've never over watered before and I'm busy quite a lot so they always get dry enough before I water again.

I looked about and though it could be root bound. When I repotted it was clear they were in the pots for too long, there were roots all around the out side.

I'm now thinking if it could be a ph/nute lockout problem as root bound can cause this right? Too many roots and not a lot of soil too buffer the Ph. I never checked the Ph of the water i used after the repot too.

Another reason for this is firstly the claw tips of the leafs. the edges are slightly raised now aswell. I found some necrotic spots/specs on one leaf and on a bottom leaf it is beginning to yellow but it's got a brown patch on (I know the yellow may be N def). Maybe signs of different deficiency's?

Hopefully it will be a simple ph adjustment, the plants look quite nice at the moment accept the few problems.

Hopefully a bit more info will help you help me lol does anything come to mind saying all this?

    Thanks again man!

  12. My laptop's broken so I can't put any pictures up or even update :( All I can say is they are going great not problems now. I don't know what the last one was but it cleared up with out doing anything.

I will take pics and then put some up on my friends computer, will probably take a few over a couple of weeks n update unless I flip to 12/12 before then.

    Peace!

    :bongin:

  13. hey dude, hows it going? any updates yet?

sorry to hear about your lappy!

  14. Yo!
sorry man, it's been so long!

    I still have both plants.
Thanks to the LST I did they've come out like 2 little bushes.

If you make a circle with your arms they're about that wide, maybe slightly bigger and almost flat on top with about ten colas.
And about a foot in canopy depth. They're coming along nice now.

I ended up putting them outside as they got to big but I just done some epic repot and put one back into the wardrobe on 12/12.

I will definetly post some pictures tomorrow!

    Peace! :bongin:

  15. here's some Pictures of the NL girl I've just put into flower about 3 days ago.

I just watered her with 3 separate litres of rain water, about 5 minutes inbetween each.

The first litre with 2.5ml of Plagron Grow.
The Second with 2ml B-52, 1ml Voodoo Juice and 1ml of Piranha.
And the Third was just plain rain water.

I added 1ml of vinegar to each litre to bring the ph slightly down from 7.

Will take some photos of the other girl in the garden tomorrow.

    Peace! :bongin:

  16. Hey dude, glad your still here!
Damn they got big since i last saw them, looking like you'll do well!

  17. Sweet man!
Yeah I've had them too long now haha.

The one under the light has loads of pistils coming through, really excited to see how this grow turns out!

I'm not sure what I'm doing yet but I may leave this under the light budding, until the outdoor starts flowering, then keep both out side. As this one will finish before the one outdoors, I'll probs bring that one in when I harvest this one. if the weathers getting crappy.
I hope that made sense haha!

Will get some pictures up within the next couple of days.

    Peace! :bongin:

  18. Update!

Long story short, last year I harvested some pollen from a male that I had in my garden. It was actually a beautiful plant! Was gutted to find out it was a male.
I'll have to get a pic of it definitely haha!

I stored it in a baggy inside a baggy inside a sheet of paper inside a jar filled with barley (I think) and salt to keep any moisture out lol!

Any way I kinda put some on a few pistils on my plant under the light.

I dipped a kebab stick into the baggy and it had minimal pollen on it but when I was pollinating my bitch I did notice a few pollen particles float off into the canopy lol so maybe a few seeds in there!

I'm not too bothered though. The pollen is from a cheese x (possibly) Diesel batch which I had a few females out of and it was a nice smoke.

    Pictures should be up tomorrow!

    Peace!  :bongin:
