The homeless

  1. So, first a story::

Yesterday i went to the dollar store, and there was a man sitting out there, harrassing people who refused to give him money. (He told one woman, while I was walking past "Oh you dont care about the homeless")
So, I stopped walking. I looked at him and I told him that if he wanted to fix his issues to get the f&&k up, and go find a job, then he started going on about how "oh i cant work..." i told him Mcdonalds was hiring and walked away while he was yelling at me.

It drives me insane, that people can stand on the corner and beg for money but are to lazy to get a job and work, then they complain when nobody gives them a hand out. Why should i GIVE YOU my hard earned money so you can CONTINUE to be a lazy POS? Get the f**K off the sidewalk, go to a shelter to take a shower, a salvation army to get a suit, and FIND A JOB!

I refuse to give people who wont help themselves, any help.

    /rant.

Because there's so many available jobs out there for everyone, you can easily live on a McDonald's wage, and not a single homeless person has a legitimate illness/disability preventing them from being able to hold down a job they do happen to get.

That being said, I do try to avoid giving them straight cash. If they're by a restaraunt or something I might offer to go get them food or a drink if I have time. I don't live in a city either, so it's not like I'm passing several every few blocks

we've been having an issue with pan handlers around here.. they stand on the corner of an intersection just getting off the interstate and make a fool of themselves, and people give them money. there are stories of some guys walking away and getting into a new dodge charger...

i agree to a certain extent but there are plenty of people out there who flat out can't work...

  5. There but for the grace of God, go I.....

  6. I would disagree that none of them has a disease or something preventing them from working.

  7. dude, if theyre truly homeless they sleep in a fucking gutter. obviously if they can do that anyway mcdonalds is gonna be a liveable wage for them.

  8. I do have to interject some reality here.

If you are homeless you have no address and no phone.
Tell me again how easy it is to get a job with neither of these things.

You also have no access to clean clothes or regular showers.
Tell me how easy it is to get a job when you smell and are dirty.

So .. try to have some compassion.
Most people on the street are veterans or mentally ill.

  9. ^This.  Plus without a vehicle? How are you going to get to work.  Homeless with absolutely nothing is completely rock bottom and if you haven't been there you can't judge

    ^^^^^

The two guys above me basically said what I was about to! I think the real problem here is differentiating people simply pan handling for a certain goal and actual homeless people!

It's baffling how much people underestimate what it's like to be without a home. You wouldn't believe it. It can happen to anyone. You can lose all you have in a second. You're a fool if you think sleeping on the streets is being lazy. Its horrible. It's hard enough for people with homes, cars, clean clothes, and phones to find a job but damn near impossible when people look at you like less of a human to begin with. You dot just go to Salvation Army and get a free tux and go apply for jobs when you have no adress, no phone, and you're hungry.

I have a long time ago stopped judging and trying to decipher why/how this person could be homeless. That's not my job! If I have a dollar to spare and food in my stomach I give every single time. I give weed, I gie drinks, I give pennies. That's my job. That registers in the universe and hopefully comes back to me in the form of what I desire. If that person was being deceitful that's on their karma not mine.

This is a passionate subject to me. I wish people would stop once in awhile and just identify with another simply as another human being. A soul respecting a soul.

  11. if youre actually motivated it isnt hard to get a job even if youre homeless.

you can shower in shelters, do a sink clean, camp shower, get a cheap gym membership.....

you can use a shelter or friends address.

you can walk, bike, or bus to work. carpool with a coworker. in many cities with public transportation there are usually programs to provide free or reduced fare for those in such situations.

most cities large enough to have a homeless population have places that give free clothing to those in need. washing clothes can be done by hand if need be.

there is a government program that offers a free cell phone and iirc 200 minutes a month.

if you want a job the only thing preventing it is you.

  12. How are you supposed to continue an application when it says "please enter a valid address".

And honestly who wants to hire a homeless person? I would find it easier to collect unemployment checks and food stamps.

  13. Many "Homeless" people in NYC were mentally ill who were released from the mental hospitals, in the 1980's.  They sent them to SRO hotels that were paid for by the state, and we the citizens had to endure endless harassment from many of them, who were clearly dangerous lunatics that should not have been released from the asylums.

  14. Not to mention the conditions that lead to people becoming homeless are usually what's stopping them from finding a job, plus the obvious of not having clean clothes, a car, phone, a home address, possible background check issues.

To say it's because of not enough willpower is not quite on point. Maybe a small percentage of homeless.

I'm young, able bodied, college background, years of labor experience, and have a reliable vehicle, and it still took me 4 months to land a job. Cmon hobos it's simple to get a job!

again, you can use a shelter or a friends address in the application.

i would bet that many places, especially small business would be willing to hire a guy whose homeless but is motivated to do everything i described. shows far more effort than a lot of employees care to give, because they dont need it. a homeless person who is genuinely committed to fixing their life is going to be a hard worker.

if you are homeless and have no support this stuff is all youre ever gonna be able to do to fix the problem anyway.

i do agree that its easier to collect handouts, but that wasnt my point at all.

  16.
    Look down.

    ^^ This

I won't take the "They are a veteran" b.s either. Im considered 60% disabled by the VA, and I still work.

  17. So would I.

  18. I wonder how it can really be expected of a homeless person to just get up and get a job. They live under a bridge in clothes they've worn for 3 months straight, panhandling for a daily drunk. None of this is an excuse not to better their life, it's just the reality of their situation. yes, a situation they got themselves into, but, once in that situation it's just about impossible to get out.

Once you're really homeless, (and a lot of these people CANT go to a shelter, they've been kicked out for drunkeness or some other nonsense), you're just not going to be getting any job offers. What employer is going to hire somebody that has no way to wash their new mcdonalds uniform???

I'm extremely biased, I know, though I have never been homeless, one of my best friends on this piece of shit planet has been several times. It's not as black and white as everyone thinks it is. Life does not fuck everyone equally!!!

  19. First: A government entity considered you partially disabled. = $ check in the mail + benefits.
Second: You are still able to work. = extra $ income.

    Count your blessings! Wanna trade?
I don't understand who you are calling b.s. on?

  20. Again, unless you have been in their situation you can't judge. Some people are physically addicted to substance, which is an illness very hard to get out of. Unless you've experienced shitting your pants and mass vomiting, you can't judge them on that either. can't judge them on a mistake. We all make them.

Others are not aware or do not have access to shelters or cheap gyms. Please visit the Tenderloin, San Francisco ( YouTube it) and tell me you can get a job or shelter in that position.
