Is my Super Silver Haze ready for harvest?

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Outdoors' started by Desmochadero, Apr 3, 2014.

  1. Hey guys
This is my first grow and I would like some input.
I am in the southern hemisphere in a subtropical region. Even though the fall began about a week ago, temperatures are pretty high (20-30 degrees celcius)
I have a 2 feet tall SSH that I started outdoor in a 5 gallon pot.
As soon as I saw the first flowers I put the plant into 12/12 by bringing the pot inside a dark room once it was exposed to 12 hours of daylight (7 am to 7 pm)
Today I looked at the trichomes and noticed that they are going from clear to amber, skipping the "milky" stage?  The plant is in its 6th week of 12/12.  It's a sativa that is supposed to be ready for harvest at week s 9 to 11.  What is going on?  I don't want the THC to degrade since I want the sativa high and not the couch lock effect.  Should I harvest now?  Should I wait?
I enclose pictures of the plant and buds.  Any help will be appreciated guys.
pic 1 = SSH full plant
    pic 2 = Top cola
pic 3 = top apex bud
pic 4 = lateral brach bud

  2. Seems too early to harvest. Are the pistils still growing out or are they curling in?

  3. you check the bud or leaves? leaves always change early

Not bad....but it's far from ready.....too many new white pistils still emerging, and it's still too green...once the white pistils stop showing and fan leaves start yellowing then you will be ready....SSH sativa...I've grown SSH mine took every bit of 13wks of 12/12 to finish...FYI...sativas run 10-14 wk flowering periods...and that a tru sativa there, much like Jack Herer, also a tru sativa and 13wk flowering time...

It's a dynamite strain won high times cannabis cup 3 years in a row 97-99...so don't rush it...when leaves look similar to this, then start considering a harvest date...good luck and be patient...

  5. Looks like it's still got some time man. I'd personally wait on it.
    Looks beautiful though.

  6. As mentioned, I'm fairly sure it may be too early. I'd shoot for ~20% amber but that's basically up to you. Definitely wait some though.

  7. End of week 7 and lower fan leaves going yellow.

I still keep seeing lots of amber trichomes...

Are the rest clear or milky?

    Still too many white pistils?

  8. At this point, it's all on personal preference. The more amber pistils the more you'll get that 'couchlock" effect.

  9. Now alot of people will tell you that you should harvest based on the colour of your trichomes. But (again, in my opinion) that is far too simplistic and there are too many variables to make that an effective strategy. I've made that point a million times before and i'm not going to re-hash it here,(maybe just a bit) but rest assured there is more to the picture than just trich colour.

A ripe marijuana plant will be filled in, will have an amber tinge to the buds. The pistils should have browned (or orange-d) off and receded into the buds. The seed bracts should be swollen and the trichomes should be sticking straight out with bulbous ends. Also, because you're coming close to the end of plant's life cycle, the leaves should have yellowed off and started to die.

Im growing super haze thats about 6 weeks old and she better turn out much bigger than that by the time im done with her.

just looking at it id let it ripen a week or two.

  11. Nah, let her fatten up.

  12. ^^this OP.. sativa is tricky when it comes to harvesting sometimes.

  13. Not even close. Like others have said she will fatten up dramatically in the next two weeks.

  14. Thanks to all for their comments and help with my first grow.

    Of course... I will wait!

  15. The heads on the trichs should be visable without magnification. I don't really see any in the pics.

Go by trichs on buds, not the "sugar leaves".

  16. End of week 9

No more white pistils and bracts considerably swollen

    Should I think about flushing?
