dreaded jetta transmission problems..

  1. So I drove my car up a hill one night after maybe a 30 min drive and the gear system seemed to fail at about 2nd gear and I couldn't go any higher than 2nd gear in what I'm assuming was limp mode because when I restarted the car it drove normally again.

However now it shifts hard going into 2nd gear. I got the fluid changed and filter changed and whatnot. Not flushed. Mechanic said he reset my tranny so it still may have problems for another 100 miles. It has gotten better since the fluid change but it still kicks back going into 2nd gear. The rpms sometimes go to 30,000 changing into 2nd gear and it does this with no other gear.

Also. When the boyfriend and mechanic test drove it (with me in the car) going fast on the speed up from stops seemed to help it (kinda a slow driver over here).

I wanna take the car back to the mechanic next week if its not fixed. Any ideas what it could be? Should going into 2nd gear be smooth as butter, like all my other gears are?
