Using peat in place of coco

Discussion in 'Advanced Growing Techniques' started by Drakkor, Apr 2, 2014.

  1. Okay before i get lectured, i used a peat based potting mix 85% peat and 15% lime/perilite.
I've been instructed to basically trest this like a coco grow as far as ph and feeding.
My question is how often should i flush them if I'm feeding 5 days a week, water w/ molasses 1day and one day plain water. I'd like to flush 1-2x a month but I'm not sure how often to feed to achieve this.
I use 20ml biothrive bloom, 1/4 tsp camg, 2.5 bio bud and on the
    Molasses day 1tbls.

  2. pH = 6.3

Feed when container feels light to lift.
Peat gets acidic over time. Your lime should counterthat.
Keep an eye on run off pH and ppm. Use molasses in the last few weeks of flowering.
When runoff ppm gets higher than 1500...flush.

  3. Use ecoira coco way better than peat holds water way better

  4. One thing to watch for on peat is that when it dries out it becomes hydrophobic. Its hard to rewet when it becomes dry.
