I've been involved in this debate and it's tiring sometimes.... http://forum.grasscity.com/absolute-beginners/1292554-how-sensitive-flowering-plants-light-leaks.html

There are multiple growing styles and techniques. Let's look at the arguments:

    Light leaks vs. hermies
    CFL vs. HPS vs. LED
    Soil vs. Hydro
    Organic vs. Bottled

As beginners, some of the guys coming here looking for help have a very little experience actually growing anything and they've already been influenced by what they've read. Depending on what they know, it can be a turn off to growing completely when the first post and first question they ask is greeted with "What you're doing is WRONG! If you don't do it this other way, all the money you've spent is wasted!" My response? "Okay, I'll just trash all my equipment, keep buying "whatever" weed off the street from those growing assholes. " Way to go! You just succeeded in keeping the "growing secret". Growing weed isn't difficult, it's not a strict science, it's not a mystery. Take a second to actually READ the post and find out more information before blasting people with your own opinion! If you have no experience, the best answer would be to recommend or mention someone who may have experience. If no other option, post nothing. I admit, some of these guys come along with some really fucked up or funny shit, but hey, the internet is full of comedy, right? Give the noobs a break, some of them are trying and they're on a budget, so be NICE! We smoke weed to relax.... so DO it! Help when you can, hold you opinion, and keep the zen.

The queen of my tent orders a cease and desist of all hostility. (A friendly debate is always beneficial though.) Admit your differences and commit to the GROW!

EDIT: I changed the title after I re-read it, "Can't we all just get along?" was too much Rodney King :|

  2. All i had for my first grow was a closet and a 200w CFL veg to flower  :smoking:

  3. I refuse to get along until everyone agrees I'm correct :)

  4. Willy, I agree with your post, for the most part. In fact, when I make my many daily visits to GC, the absolute beginners sub-forum is usually my first stop. I typically look for posts with zero or few responses. Because I don't mind helping the willing and able novice out, but if he/she already has a ton of responses, I usually don't bother. And I have no problem whatsoever helping out people with legit questions. What really salts my onions though is the people who have one single post and it consists of "help me build my grow box," and NOTHING else. Like come on dudes. Bring something to the table. I read and researched on this forum and others for almost a fucking year before I started growing. I guess what I am saying is, it's fine if you can only afford a fucking cardboard box and some CFLs. But at least have some notion of what is going on, i.e., don't ask me how to grow cannabis if you don't even know the difference between a veg and a flower period.

  5. Exactly. Do you know they block any reference to GC on 420 Mag's forums because the general consensus is the members here are childish? I wouldn't want to be associated with that, but I am :hide:

  6. Right there with ya, but I usually recommend more reading and come back with specifics.

  7.
I suppose no one cares what the other sites think about our "home" here at GC....

  8. I think there is so much info to sift through here that I simply haven't "out grown" this, or graduated to another site yet.

But what you're talking about keeps me from asking a lot of stupid questions that I just don't know the answer to.
I'm cool with different methods that work for different people, but when they start chest pounding over some theory or personal experience I feel like I'm no better off than before I just spent an hour reading through something. So I end up in trial and error anyways. I take what makes a little sense to me at the time and leave the rest on the table. Then come back for more as I move forward. Maybe someday I'll have something useful to bring to the table.
For me, understanding what I'm doing is the beginning of having fun. I just want to be in the circle of the guys who are having fun growing weed. There don't seem to be much of a weed growing social club in the real world (even though everybody's doing it), so this internet thing is all I got go'n on.

  9. as a beginner i thank you for checking the beginner forum, ive been reading how to grow since augest and will have my first full swinging organic led grow started by the end of the month!

  10. I'm a beginner myself, I've only been growing for two years. Compared to these guys that have 30 years+ under their belt, I'm a super-rookie.

  11. i thinks its amazing we have people on here that have 30+ years experience im so excited to start

  12. Swim in the pool of knowledge, but be careful of the oil slicks!

  13. This thread hasn't been updated for awhile but I'm with you.. I came to GC around this time last year with no knowledge of how to grow, I read the threads, I read the books, watched the videos, spent about 6 months researching before actually diving into it, but when I did I was greeted by veteran members of GC who helped guide me and answer questions regarding their knowledge and experience and personal preferences.

I think thats the point of the community but I notice more and more hostility that is off putting to me and I'm sure very off putting to a newcomer attempting to tread lightly and learn

  14. It hasn't had a whole lot of activity, but I linked it in my sig when I first posted it then I got really busy and haven't been here! I just wish the vibe here was more like 420 magazine's forum. The info is spot on, the attitude sucks sometimes.

  15.
This is really the only forum I have experience on, first one I stumbled on... It has always had all the info I need so I had no reason to look elsewhere

  16. I only started growing this year. I had grown once when I lived with a buddy. Thought that made me qualified, turns out it did jot at all. After setting up the room battling high temps, and now making sure they stay warm. I wish I had done more research before I started my seeds. However I am a quick study and things have gone well after my first few stumbles. I agree that people shouldn't snap to judge another grower, the man who decides he knows to much to listen will never grow.

  17. Plants grow themselves, we just provide the conditions.
