Help needed with some grow problems

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by evilcult, Mar 31, 2014.

1. Was not sure were to post this, as this is an indoor grow problem, as well as a newbie grow problem.

I did do alot of reading before posting here, but im still in the dark, so i hope someone on here can give me some assistance/clarity.

I am going to give as much info as possible so that readers now the exact situation I am in:

Some background info,

• This is my first time trying to grow. I got some bag seeds and germinated them in the paper towel method and after 12 hours seeds started to sprout
• The sprouted seeds were transplanted to trays, and the seedlings popped out within 2 days, the 7th of March, to be exact.
• For those counting, that means my plants is just a little over 3 weeks old and from the pictures that are going to follow, you will see that (according to me) growth is not very good
• I transplanted my seedlings to the pots that can be seen in the photos at about week 2
• The soil that I am using is potting soil ....
• About four days ago i noticed that the leaves were starting to look yellow'ish and then i noticed a single web, and read about spider mites, i investigated the plants and saw what looked like mites on the leaves, i then sprayed the plants with the soap + water mix i read about.
• Sprayed them of with clean water about 15mins later
• flushed the plants with about 5 litre's of water an hour later
• Next day i went and bought organic pesticed (neem oil and garlic) and sprayed the plants
• This was about 3 days ago? +-
• Now, as you can see from the photos, i have a few problems

Mites seems gone.
• if i look at the info i have read the plants seems to be showing signs of nute burn?
• I have never added any nutrients
• The leaves also looks like it is showing signs of over watering?
• I never gave the seedlings water ( they were in a cling wrap dome) and they were doing fine.
• Ever since they have have been repotted, i only water every four days, and the pots have good drainage.

[*]Can some of the experts please take a look at the photos below and give me some tips?
The photos were taken at night, so please let me know if you need more detailed photos or if they are unclear. I uploaded the photos to a host, apologies if i missed a rule against this.

Plant 01 - This on is the one that looks the worst of the lot, and coincidentally the one that i thought was going to be the nicest one, (s)he sprouted first and was the biggest of the lot in the first few days

2. This could possibly be a large variety of problems, I am not expert but these girls look like mine did at the start.

First things first if your soil has nutrients in it I would straight away flush & then water the girls with bottled nutrients its definately time.

Try those things if they don't work then I'm not sure what the problem is.

3. Soil looks dense and compact. Roots are suffocating. Mix in some perlite get some oxygen to those roots...

Spider mites can really take its toll on seedlings. Personally as these are about the size of 3 day old seedling and aren't going to have decent growth rates any time soon, I would start some new seeds.
Other than the spider mites the roots are suffocated. You are watering too often
Let the soil dry out and don't fertilise. They could probably be saved but you will be looking at a couple of weeks at least before they are growing properly again. In that time you could have new two week old plants that are fast growing and several inches tall

5. You say they haven't been watered and then go on to say you water them every four days. I don't get it..
If you have the plants covered they will not be able to breath. A fan is necessary to allow them to transpire

6. Very good advice.

7. First off all, sorry for taking so long to respond, I have read the responses on this thread, other topics on this forum and almost the entire internet, and i was busy building a new (bigger) growbox, pics to follow soon :)

I stand to be corrected, but I think with the help of the replies and other topics, i might have sorted my problems.

First off,

I think that might be part of the problem, I did not compact my soil, but later read to water SLOWLY, or else compaction might happen, i tended to pour the water very fast. First Lesson Learned.

I also replanted my seedlings to a bigger pot very early on, so i *think* i might have done it to early on, and the roots took some stress, or maybe even damage.

Perlite has been bought, and is in the new pots, with some organic seedling soil bought from the nursery.

After closer inspection, im not sure if the spider mites were really a problem, there was one single mite on, and only a single webbing, and i caught it early on, so i think the problems was something else, a bunch of different factors that I will elaborate on in a min.

I did not water very often, the pics were taken just after a watering, but as stated on top, i think i watered to much, to violently.

Sorry for the confusion, i meant i never watered the seedlings whilst sprouting, and the seedlings where covered until they popped out. After that, i started watering every 4 - 5 days.

Decided to this, new seeds are being germinated as we speak, also decided not to trash the other ones, im going to plant them outside, and see if they will survive all on their own.

Now, thanks to this thread, and some other resources, this is my conclusion on what i might have done wrong, i will correct these and hopefully my second grow will be more successful.

• First off, was the watering, maybe to much, definitely to violently.
• No Perlite in the soil, which caused comapction
• I had no fan in my old small grow box, new box has two fans in, one on the bottom to blow up clean air, and a second exhaust fan on top to get out stale and hot air.
• I had mylar on my floor, later read that this can also burn the plants, because the are not suppose to get light from the bottom of their leaves.
• Transplanted to early, causing stress, or even damage to the roots.
• Wrong CFL's, i had 4 4000k's in there, new growbox has 4 6500k's in

Lets see how it goes :)

Thanks everyone for taking the time to read and assist, i appreciate it :)
