White Widows FIRST Grow

Discussion in 'Indoor Grow Journals' started by gingerb, Mar 28, 2014.

  1. I'm a total newbie here, been told white widow isn't really the best seed to start with on a first grow.
But got given some good quality seeds x7 intotal and x6 have sprouted, not totally sure if I have
space for to grow all x6. Am considering growing x2 of them outside once weather improves, just to see how they do naturally.

The other x4 plants will be under a 400 watt HPS light rig which I have yet to try out.
Grow space is a work in progress but within the next few days I will have everything setup, I'm not expecting too much and did't even think my seeds would sprout.

Would be greatful of any advice from other growers who have grown white widow seeds
    with success or failure.

Am going to try and keep updates via the forum, on how well my grow goes.

See photos over last few days

Ok out of my x6 seedlings, x2 have suddenly gone or limp today see photo below:

    View attachment 136672

I've spray watered since taking the photo and one of the limp seedlings has sprung back up,
but other other seedling is completely on her side.

Am only on the day 4 of sprouting.

  4. They are stretching too fast and too far for the light. Transplant them into bigger containers, such as solo cups, and bury those stems to about 1-2 inches below the cotyledons(smooth round leaves that first emerged from soil) and get them closer, but not TOO close, to their light source.
    Like, TODAY!!

  5. They are too wet, lay off the water a little.

  6.
Cheers for the advice @[member="VTyanky"] will get them changed up today and planted slightly deeper into the soil.

Once I watered very slightly yesterday the x2 limp seedling perked up and seem fine now.

Am only on day 5 five the grow, when should I consider stronger lights?
Currently they are only under an very weak LED light,
but I have a 400w CFL setup and ready to go but I think it's too early for that yet.

  7.
@[member="Phil N. Bowls"] I know my last photo looks like they have alot of water on them,
I had only just given them a fine mist spray of water, as they seemed very dry soilwise.

I've been very careful about over watering, but since taking the last photo the x2 seedlings
that were all limp have sprung back to life

Ok seedlings introduced to my 400w CFL yesterday, one of the seedlings got slightly stressed and went droopy.
But recovered once lights went out.

Started off with lights 20" away from plants and got advised to raise up to 30" as did't have fan yesterday.
Have't really notice much changes, slightly concerned the plants are still stretching for light.
All were repotted yesterday without any problems.

  9. Ok grow tent is now fully operational, installed extractor fan today with ducting.
I just went for a cheap package deal via ebay, which includes the extractor fan, ducting, tape, carbon filter and metal ties to hang filter.
For the price roughly £46, its not a bad little package. Extractor fan is slightly noisy, but think fan noise will quieten down once I put the carbon filter on when things get stinky.

  10. Need some help, got my extractor fan going today but x3 of my plants have flopped see photo

Does it look heat related? am due to water them tomorrow.
I've raised the light up slightly but they have been doing ok up till about 30mins ago.

  11. Ok got some advice re my flopped seedlings via the forums, I think my light has been drying out the soil quicker then i thought.
I gave the remain seedlings I have a good watering last night and boy did they soil suck that water down.

So I am now down to x3 seedlings out of x6 sprouted seeds.
x2 of the seedlings seem to have stopped stretching for the light and opened up, but the biggest seedling is still stretching.

Ok short update my x3 remain plants have all stopped stretching, but I have a new problem where x2 plants have a yellow sort
of dryness to them. One plant is slightly worse, then the 2nd one.

Any ideas? are they too close to my light?
All x3 plants are all still growing well.

  13. Its not from the lights. Thats either from transplant shock or it hit a bir of nutrient in the soil and it burned it. More likely transplant shock. It will recover and those marks will stay on the leaves but wont spread.

  14. Ok i transplanted last weekend, but the yellow on the leaves only started a few days ago.
But it make sense what your saying as I think I mixed up soils when repotting to slight bigger pots.
I have one plant that is totally fine and not showing any yellowing on the top leaves.

When do you think I should repot into 3 gallon pots?
Plants are just 2 weeks old tomorrow.

  15. Let them rest and then make sure they start to get bigger. Probably about 2 weeks.

  16. Ok cheers for the advice, should I be watering them slightly every few days?

  17. Just enough until you get a drop or two out of container bottom. Give them about 4 days between.

Ok won't water them to wednesday now.
I notice last night one of my plants has suddenly started looking very weak, see below photo:

There is a slim chance I gave it too much water over weekend, but my other x2 plants are doing fine.
It just seems limp, compared to other plants.

  19. Day 17 - x2 plants left,
I think I was underwatering the seedlings.

My seeds are meant to be white widows, but to me my x2 remaining plants look slightly different from each other.
Not sure if they are growing differently, one has more height but the other one is more bushy with it's leaves.

  20. Abit concerned my x2 plants are growing rather differently.
Both are meant to be fem white widows, the smaller one seems fine and is growing.
But the larger taller one does't seem to want to open up and fan it's leaves open,
I dropped my lights down a few inches yesterday and through the day the taller plant
did seem to respone and start to open up its leaves. After lights out it's back to having
its leaves all tight together again, but it is growing ok.

See photos below to see what I am talking about:

    Both plants:

Taller plants with tight leaves/not opening up

Does anyone have any ideas as to why my taller plants is acting the way it is?
As of tomorrow the plants are both x3 weeks old.
Growing under 400w MH, in grow tent with extractor fan.
