Ugh, I need a really good pillow

  1. I got some decent ones at Macy's, but I started to feel like my neck was being bent too hard (too stiffly packed maybe?) so on my brothers suggestion, I went to brookstone and got some better than down pillows. They worked out alright at first, as they were softer but still had some support without being too much. But they are going to mush real quick and losing whatever benefit I got from them.My neck keeps bending in my sleep, especially when I'm on my side, I think due to the pillow sucking my head keeps feeling like it's going to knock against my headboard so I hunch over...anyway it's making me miserable.Stiffer oversupportive stuff like memory foam pillows or anything that will make my neck/head bend at an angle too much is definitely not something I'd be keen on. Otherwise, yeah, if anyone has any helpful suggestions, have at it.

  2. I have to lay with a pillow flat under my back aswell as my head, it puts less pressure on my neck, try that!

  3. I have one of these that I got from a chiropractor:

I was in a car accident and got whiplash among other injuries. I still use this three years later because it's comfortable and I never get a stiff neck anymore. It does have some foam material in it so it can't really get squished like normal pillows over time. Then around the foam there's padding that can be taken out or added if you want.

  4. I REALLY don't like "foam" though. People swear by it, but it's just not comfortable for me. I get that the relative stiffness provides support while the relative softness cushions you, but it always comes off as way too dense for me (and, not for nothing, but memory foam mattresses in particular are awful to have sex on, which is a major downside right out of the gate :p ) .

Anyway, you didn't really mention what kind of pillow that was so I'd have no way of tracking it down anyway?

  5.
Sorry about that! It's called a cervical traction pillow.

The spine has a natural curve near the neck where the firm foam is. The dip in the middle and the firm foam around the edges are there to help support that curve.

  6. Cervical traction pillow huh? I almost thought you were kidding at first and inferring I had a vagina because I wanted a comfier pillow to sleep on :p

I mean, I guess I'll look into it some, but yeah, it looks a bit too shapely? I move around a lot when I sleep, so while it's nice for it to have all these shapes and grooves for different positions. I'm wondering how practical it is if one shifts around a lot rather than holding still in one groove/spot?

  7.
I think it's safe to say everyone moves around like that in their sleep.

I have 5 herniated discs and this pillow along with exercise really eases the pain on my neck.

No it's not. Some people are thrashers, and some are dead right when they hit the pillow.

It also should be pointed out I don't have the same injuries as you (or really any, none officially anyway, although I'm sure a visit to the chirpractor would likely state otherwise). I simply want a better pillow. I'm not sure if it needs to be medical grade, as it might represent too much?

Of course the bigger issue is regardless, I likely cannot walk into a store and at least test this particular cervical pillow out to even see for certain if I'd like it or hate it.

  9. Good luck with your neck pain.

  10. Thanks, I'm looking forward to more feasible pillow suggestions to try out so hopefully something will pan out.

  11. I like down pillows, they're available in several fill levels and they stay cool so you don't sweat like foam or fiber filled pillows.

  12. Lol idk that looked like a good pillow to me? I bet Walmart sells pillows.

  13. Costco's pillows are fucking great.

  14. I don't shop at Walmart? I bet they do sell pillows, but I never mentioned being partial to that store, and there is only like, one, in my area, and it's in bumblefuck no where. But thanks?

They are? As in Costco brand? huh, interesting. Anyway, I don't have a Costco card so I can't even really go inside there.

Down is what I used to use (it's what I imagine most people use..). I'm sure a better down pillow than the department store ones I was using exist, but who knows. The one I got (which was medium fill, or standard or whatever) started to give me problems. I also still get warm or sweaty (not that that's a specific problem, but down hardly prevents that from happening).

was going to also say about costco's pillows...depending on location, they'll have at least 8 different ones, good brands, usually in a pair haha. firm, soft, down, alternative down, memory foam, etc. if you don't have a card, network! find someone who does and tag along. unless you feel the need to shop at a store like that, for me its like 50-60 a year and well worth it.
