$128 million? That's not even a drop in the ocean to our national debt. Just cutting the missile program without even having a backup is stupidity beyond belief! Now, I will admit, the quotes like "running a white flag up a... flagpole" are very much an exaggeration, because there are still plenty of defense systems in place, but it is still a really dumb idea to cut such a successful system, for such a trivial amount of money.

  2. Those missiles are like what 1million each.  I don't think they need anymore, they apparently have over 3500 stockpiled ready to go.

  3. You must have not read the article:

So they only have around 500 at most, would be my guess from that.

  4. Not stupid at all we shouldn't be fighting foreign wars, and if we brought ALL of our troops and equipment home nobody could invade us for 20 years

  5. but what will his drones shoot at the women and children?!

  6. Pretty sure the navy is working on better things. Like rail guns

  7. dont worry. He is only cutting some money from one program from one branch.

  8. This was before Syria, where did all their missles go?  And they are working on larger missiles then Tomahawks, so I am sure money is going into that.

  9. Highly Effective means you get the kids also so they don't come to get revenge for you murdering their family

  10. If he doesn't kill that too.

  11. If a Paul wanted to drop the program, best idea ever.  Obama, not so much.

  12. Nope, a cut to the budget for the missiles wouldn't be so bad, but not stopping it altogether, especially when the replacement is still under development, and won't be ready for another 10 years. Maybe cutting the budget by half until the replacement is actually ready would have been a better plan.

  13. I think this is just a case of out with the old tech and in with the new. Its just the new is still classified so yes unclassified there is no replacement but really there is. I would be willing to bet a little $$ all these ppl in Gov. calling foul and saying it makes us weaker have a check coming from Boeing, Raytheon or some other weapons maker.

Also with the premise that the amount of $$ being saved is just a drop in the bucket then nothing would ever get cut. Its the many drops in the bucket that fill it, not the one.

  14. the reverse statement us also true concerning obamas flock.

People are just sheep. So yea that was a pointless statement

  15. They're making room for the laser cannons

  16. 10 years is most likely an over-estimation. They wouldn't be cutting them if they were needed and there wasn't something to use in their place. It's just propaganda to get people to stop supporting cuts, aka Washington Monument Syndrome.

  17. There is no such thing as a dumb government budget cut.

The amount of utterly incompetent regurgitated blindly left interwebs circle jerk rhetoric in this thread and more so in this category in general is just fucking astounding.

Perhaps it would be wise to actually contribute something constructive to the discussion instead of throwing out some one liner.

Sorry for ranting. This just seems to be a common theme in this section of GC, and I'm aware this is not contributing to the thread either, so I'll say that this cut is likely bureaucrats in DC micromanaging the military, business as usual. Even war hawk republicans do it, Donald Rumsfeld and the invasion of Afghanistan for example.

  19. Well that's all part of the plan, don't you know? Whenever they make a cut to any area that seriously needs to be cut, it's the dumbest possible cut that hardly helps financially anyways and actually causes harm. That way people who oppose the cuts can 'point out the harm' in making military cuts, to deter people from calling for them in the future...
