My Poem: Basic Instinct

  1.   Back in 2010 I had just been released from the Army under "unfavorable" conditions.  I had to move in with my Grandmother and Mother....how humiliating.  Needless to say my depression reached a place I hope to never go back to.
In the Spring of 2011 I started taking classes at my local community college while wrestling with the VA for benefits.  The classes just seemed to increase my feeling of complete hopelessness. It was one very early morning math class that I wrote this poem at the desk that was conveniently located at the back of the class.

    Basic Instinct

    Broken Souls
    Broken Minds
Trying Everything Just to Hold on

    Here we go Again
    Don't Give up
    Don't Give in
Pick the Pieces up and Start Again

An Empty Heart is a Wasteful Thing
A Full Heart is a Ticking Time Bomb
Just Waiting for its Chance to Explode

Cover the Walls Red with my Pain
Lost Forever like a Single Droplet of Rain
