Aero pump loosing pressure after 10 minutes of running

  1. After months of on and off work on my low pressure aeroponics system I finally have it up and running. Its essentially built like a GH aero60. Major differences are I used 4 8ft vinyl fence posts and my net pots are spaced every foot. For jet spray lines i used 3/8"x1/4" ID tubing. Working with a 40gal res. The only issue I am having is my pump will run fine for about 10 minutes, spraying a relitivly high pressure jet just like I want, but gradually over ther course of 15-20mins the spray will decrease in pressure until its only a trickle. If I unplug the pump and plug it back in its right back up to pressure but will again slow to a trickle. Iv tried numerous pumps including a 1300gal/hr submersible, an 1800gal/hr sump pump, and now a 1200gal/hr danner pond master mag drive pump which iv heard great things about.

Has anyone had similer issues when building an aero system? Any ideas would be great, im out of ideas

  2. Mc, that is wierd all of them would do that. Something leaking after pressure? Maybe use a one on 4 off cycle timer.
Post if u find problem because that is a good one. Gl OG

  3. The 1/4" id tubing is creating too much resistance. When the pump fires up, it can overcome the initial tubing resistance but at a cost to the flowrate (1200gph pump might deliver just 10gph at that instant). After the initial surge, the resistance will increase slowly as its linked to the flowrate and velocity.  In a nutshell, replace the 1/4" id tube with something bigger and you`ll see an improvement. ;)

  4. I am thinking  you are sucking air in a tubing fitting. pumps WILL NOT push air! so , it stalls.
I hsve been reserching this issue/method your employing.
the type of pump ur using is not powerful enought o sustain that hi presurres the misting nozzles require.
I agree with geoaero though, larger tubing might hit a better balance.
here is teh pump am purchasing:

  5. A 160psi 5lpm 12v diaphragm pump coupled to a big accumulator is hard to beat. ;)
