How many people are useing hempy buckets with coco?

  1. I did DWC last year and loved it but I cant keep the temps down enough when it's not winter here(live in Florida) so I'm looking at doing hempy buckets since I did one with my DWC and it turned out great.

Looking thru this forum tho it doesn't look like many run hempy with coco so why is that or am I just missing it?  I have a 5x5 tent and want to fill it with 5gal hempy buckets but dont want to use perlite/vermiculite this time since it seemed like that combo just dries out too fast for me.

Any suggestions for someone in FL that wants to do some form of hydro but not able to keep water temps below 75-80 most of the time.

I did Lucas with GH for my DWC but I'd rather have something that is just one part for veg or bloom and not have too mix nutes together so what would the coco community recommend for a simple one part nute system in coco?

  2. Hempys are awesome. Personally, I'd say screw the vermiculite and go with coco/perlite. Want to water less? Use less perlite and more coco. Want water more? More perlite, less coco. Coco is great beacause it works as a root insulator too so temps in the rootzone shouldn't be much of an issue.

As for the 1 part nutes, if you're really looking for simplicity, google the KISS method.. Basically 7 grams(1 teaspoon) of maxibloom powder throughout the grow. And if you feel like gettin' fancy, you get some Liquid and Powder Koolbloom and give em a couple hits of that during flower. Good luck

  3. Thanks Mikeee I was just surprised that when I did a search for hempy and coco on this forum almost nothing came up so figured it's just not popular on this board.  I'd love to just keep doing DWC but untill I can buy a water chiller or have time to build one DWC is out of the question for me until next nov as in FL the temps are just too high nine months of the year and running AC cold enough to keep water temps at 68 would make me broke.

I'm thinking of doing just straight perlite upto the drain hole then either 75/25 coco/perlite or 50/50 coco/perlite mix above that.  Got my tent all set up just need to wait until I get paid to order some coco bricks and perlite off amazon unless my local hydro store is reasonable on price.

I have 6 White Russian seeds I bought last year and a bunch of freebies I got from the 420 sale when I bought them so planning to fill the tent with those.  I figure I can fit 9 5gal hempy buckets in my 5x5 tent w/o totally over crowding it.

hey aoj, I defiantly layer coco a little thicker at the bottom of the pot not pure though might be interesting ;)

75-25 or there abouts 60/40 should be fine idk a mix it heavy it might even be 50/50 im usually to medicated to judge but it all works out great.. i love the medium.

  5. Hey aoj  I run coco hempys with great success. I love the simplicity and the yield. With coco you don't even need to go with 5 gal buckets, 3 gal are more than sufficient. I have a perpetual coco hempy grow that you might want to check out. It's pretty informative.

    Good luck on your grow

  6. I do hempy sometimes...here a 50/50 coco super lemon haze i just did in a 3 gal (on the left)..def recommend a drip feeding system because they need water every day and 2-3 times a day is comparable to hydro growth..I just setup some pressure compensated drippers on a timer

  7. You don't need  much coco to grow big plants two gall can grow a big plant. ive been running two gallon buckets straight coco with perlite for the rez.BC

  8. I'll have to check out your grow when I get home.  I think I've settled on using 3 gal hempy buckets.  Right now I have 6 fem white russian and 2 reg Kali bubba in solo cup hempys ready to go into bigger pots.  The growth so far seems very slow to me but my only other real experience was with RDWC and those just exploded.  Deff want to get a chiller so I can go back to that during the summer months.  So far I've been giving them 6 micro 9 bloom head formula with 3ml calmag 3 ml silica blast and rapid roots.  I'll have to start up a journal Once I transplant them cus I think I'm gonna need all the help I can get with this grow.
