Life is an illusion

Discussion in 'Philosophy' started by Infinite Experience, Mar 16, 2014.

  1. There really is no such thing as "reality". We all perceive it differently and set our own rules, and expectations. Our "personality" isn't actually relevant to the world at all, it is a conglomerate of concepts, dreams, hopes, wishes, beliefs, knowledge, and experiences. What we call are problems are created within our own mind, and then perceived to be this big deal, all you have to do is remove that cloud from your thinking and it will no longer be there. If this still doesn't make sense to you look at it like this. I think we've all seen a magician perform a magic trick, and it seems so REAL but we all know there is an illusion behind it that makes it so we perceive it as so, start looking at reality and life in this fashion and be amazed at the results.

  2. But what can we do? We're bound to the system we were born in. Birth, School, Work, Die. All the problems in between are there because of shitty people and our need for money in order to survive. I wish I could escape from all the bullshit too...

  3. What you can do is be true to yourself, that's your only obligation in life. Before you do something, ask yourself if you really want to do it, doing it only when you answer yes, automatically turns away those who have nothing to learn from you, and attracts those who do, and from whom you do as well. Live to never be ashamed of anything you do or say, even if it's not true. Yes I know it feels like nothing can be changed because of your environment, but your environment is merely a product of your own mind, dealing with psychosis on and off for about a year and a half made me realise this because if my mind was strong enough to produce those delusions and paranoia, it was strong enough to realise they are merely just that, then I began realising the mind was strong enough to look through all problems by looking at it from an illusional aspect, just relax, don't make a big production out of it, remove it from your thinking and move on. Life is what you make it, dont ever limit the is.

  4. This remind me of Buddhism.

That one should let go of all personal issues, meaning no evil within, no sexual desire, no substance abuse, etc..

Indeed I definitely understand and agree with your thoughts but its difficult to just "detach" from a society that bashes our brain's with irrelevant ideals such as being popular, money, what's in style, etc..

It is planted in our subconcious mind just like "texas_ranger97" said.

From time to time I do imagine how happy the world would be without all this technology around us. Its a fact that we have advanced as humans, but at the same time we have declined.

I dream to reside on a piece of land without such things but I suppose with a population this high, it is a necessity to bring things of this nature into our lives. It provides order in a sense.

Sorry, Ive moved a bit off the topic haha.

Yes I know it is difficult to cast out from this society. I'm constantly ridiculed by people for not conforming to certain social norms etc., but I don't let it get to me, I'm not here to impress anybody, that is an endless search that leads you nowhere, I just live in a way that makes me happy.

  6. This texas ranger seems like a sound guy!

Id love to go live on a bit of land, then live off it. Say goodbye to the concept of money and just live in peace farm my own food and herb. Revert back to a hunter/gatherer lifestyle, might hate it but i wont know til i try it!

  7. If I understand what you're saying you're basically telling us that we can create our own reality. I had a similar experience in this case and it's probably true cause I've experienced some shit that was just absolutely fucking contrary to what the rest of my life looked like. But I'm still kinda worried that if I keep this train of thought I'm descending into madness instead of enlightenment, but there could be some truth to it. Still, knowing of people who have gone into a psychosis with this train of thought, I'd just tell you to chill out a little and probably stop smoking for a while. Not saying that you're not telling the truth but it kinda seems there's 50% chance of you having discovered the truth and a 50% chance of you having a psychosis. All I'm saying is... don't take that risk, don't go too deep, stay chill.

What you're saying is true Mister Stoney, you have to find the right balance. This was the reason I descended into madness, I was only thinking of these scary delusional thoughts and it consumed me. But I have definitely not even came close to finding the truth, there may be no truth, all this could be a lie, but it works for me as well as others and it's really how you perceive it, that's what I'm trying to get across lol.

Also dealing with psychosis, it made me perceive mental disorders in a different way, In this society we may call someone who lives in their own reality and delusional thoughts a Schizophrenic, but I've researched a little about Shamanism and I don't see much of a difference, maybe we accept this way of thinking in a positive manner.

  9. Yeah, so you agree there's a possibility of you just being a fucking nut. I'm not saying this to hurt you or anything but I'm dealing with some shit of my own. I've been a fairly negative person for most of my life and recently a series of events happened after smoking weed which kinda turned things around, I mean like everything. The fucking amount of positivity I received was too fucking unnatural and too much for me to believe it to be true, and as a result it lasted only a few days. Yet I distinctly remember feeling way different, disconnected yet attached to the world and capable of doing and saying anything. Like next-fucking-level-confidence or something. I don't feel the same way as I did a few days ago, I'm getting more nervous and emotional by the day and I fear I'm not going to change. Idk. Maybe PM me or something, we could have some in-depth convo about this that may help the both of us.

  10. Awesome thread bro, I concur.  This physical existence is only what our temporal interpretations allow it to be....at least if we're defining it in terms of the external.

  12. This is probably the greatest post I have ever read on this forum.

    As to the OP,
Why do you use established symbols of language to portray your thoughts?
Reality is very real. However, it gets very clouded when other "personalities" become persuasive.

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking, could you give an example?. I never said that reality wasn't real, I'm saying nobody perceives it to be exactly the same, I agree the beauty of life is truly real, but the image is only an illusion.

  15. but how is that possible, in today's age almost every one needs money to survive, what am i to do when i wake up in the morning and ask myself 'do i really want to do this today' and when the answer is 'no, this is bull' i still have to do it otherwise worse things might happen

^and that is why if i dont get rich before im like 30 im going to move to somewhere with a warm year round climate, grow my own vegetables, kill animals for food, fish in the sea for food, and live like every other animal does and has ever done. in it's self, i believe living life like that not only kicks the superficial life the majority of us live today, but it'll make me mentally and physically stronger, and i believe it will be an adventure in it's self. imagine it, you are free. no society, no rules, you live for yourself and experience what this planet truely is

I will agree that to an extent we money is helpful to survival because we have been conditioned to that way of life for a long time. But it is not necessarily needed, I was in the same position as you, no money, no food, no clothes, I was miserable, but I started changing my way of thinking and amazing things started happening, people started being so generous to me, I was being offered jobs left and right and I was finally happy. Don't think this can't happen to you because of certain people etc. forget about all that, you know all the answers, you just aren't aware of it yet. And creating all those negative attachments will certainly cause worse things to happen again and again, start looking at every opportunity in a positive manner with light at the end of the tunnel, or a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Sorry but that is very, very false. If I perceive a person has a gun pointed to my head I can't just forget about it. This is a selfish lifestyle to just ignore problems in life and make up the excuse that life isn't real. If that's the case why don't I just go on a murder spree because maybe that's my "personality" which you said isn't relevant to the world.

You don't have to forget about it, just remove that negative attachment of thinking and you will be positive you can overcome your problems. Life is real but you can't say that you live in the same reality as me, I have different expectations and attractions. Think of life as your exercise book, you can add pages, edit them, or tear them out.

  19. I am on the exact same level of understanding as you. I was on an ether binge while popping tabs and smoking weed (which has no relevance to the topic except that it does) and I got to a certain state of mind in which the "mental planes" that I had been thinking off of would switch on me almost as if I were getting deeper and deeper into my self consciousness if that makes any sort of sense. Then as I got to a certain point in my mind if was as if it were a barrier into another almost dimension or a completely new breed of "mental plane" but as I approached this barrier it was as if my body applied every ounce of force that it had in its power in stopping me from breaking this barrier and everything began to speed up as I came closer and close, my balance became unstable and my thinking became stressed and right as I was passing thru the mental threshold I yuked and that was the end of that journey.
