A Few Questions For a New Indoor Grow

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by littlecaesar, Mar 14, 2014.

  1. Hey guys, I'm starting an indoor grow and have a few questions.

As of now, I'm planning on growing about 4 plants. The space I'm using is roughly 5 feet tall and 5 feet wide, and plenty deep.

My main concern is lighting, and strain choice.

I'd like to have smokeable bud by mid-June, so I've been looking at autoflowers. My question is could I harvest in time, without using autos?

The second question is lighting. I'm low on money, so I think I'm gonna go with CFLs. For my space, is that the best choice? I'm worried that if I want more plants in the future, I'll have to just keep buying lights, and they will become a hassle. I'd much rather invest in more efficient lights in the beginning rather than having to make the switch from CFLs to an alternative in the future.

    Thanks for reading.

  2. I've been seeing more people getting good results with auto. Haven't grown any myself. I would think that would be your best bet for a June harvest. I factor in an extra month for being able to smoke for a nice cure.

Now you said 5 tall by 5 wide is it also 5 deep?

In that space a 1000 watt hid is suggested and results will be amazing. A 600 could also work. I'd suggest running more plants under it. That will save you more money not having to buy any.

  3. Well when I say plenty deep, I mean I cannot see the end of the space... It's dark though. Must be 20+ yards.

Also, the space isnt symmetrical. The left side is angled, so I'm thinking about clearance if I'm gonna use an HID.

I'll try to find some time to post a picture of the room.

Unless you have access to clones, I'd say the only option would be autos. And I'd have to agree with swagar regarding the lights.

  5. If heights a concern then maybe go with a 400. 5' is not really enough for a 1000 watter. You could always add a second 400 once you get growing down.

I wouldn't grow too many more than 4 maybe 6 autos under the 4400.might be perfect for what you want. HID lighting is much better than cfls.

  6. Go with auto's this time if you want to make June for sure. Auto's gives you wiggle room where a photoperiod can't in the alloted time frame you require. I switched to growing only auto's and I wouldn't have done that were my yields tiny and the finished product was weak. My auto's are quite potent and I like the quicker turn around. They grow very strong.

After my Afghan Kush Ryders are done, I am going to try Cream of the Crop "Amphetamine". They are suppose to be a fast grow, but I won't hold my breath. I have a limited window for that grow, so I certainly hope for the faster side. Good luck.

  7. Thanks to everyone. I'll go with the HID for sure once I get the money.

Lumateks are good ballasts. You can also get an adjust-a-wing to keep prices down, but they will be quite a bit hotter if you're going with a 600w. Just food for thought
