If you use the pendent at the beggining of the game it moves you to Champion / equivalent to Black World Tendency without telling you. Here's an example for those who are more interested in the different difficulty "modes", which works kind of like Tendency in Demon's Souls did using the area with the White Paladin and the explorers early on: White/Easy: The Undead Explorers wake up one by one, leaving you enough time to kill them before all 6 of them overwhelm you. The Paladin only wakes up if you hit him. Grey/Normal: 3 enemies wake up at the same time, the other 3 wake up faster and lingering for too long wakes up the Paladin, which you are too weak to fight at this moment. There is also an archer shooting you from above. Black/Champion: 3 enemies and a Paladin wake up at the same time, there are 3 archers around you and lingering for too long results in 3 extra explorers and another Paladin waking up. Difficulty changes depending on server, and other players can FORCE you to play in Hard mode. Especificaly, the Champions, who can offer items to make the game harder for other players by offering sacrifices to their god, but other covenants are known to affect it in more subtle ways as well. So you don't like how this game hand-holds the weaker players? You can now force them to git gud. That is also not mentioning the different enemy layouts in NG+ Hard mode is actually really, really hard, and the basic gameplay changed enough for veterans to have problems adapting. To quote someone else: Only use the pendant if you've finished the game once. Trust me, that post showed a mild example, Hard Mode is ridiculously hard. Not "Dark Souls so hard meme" hard, I mean "Ninja Gaiden Black on Master Ninja" hard. I'm picking up PS3 tonight and already have PC preordered for the 25th.
Playing Deprived or explorer for my first play through building most likely str/faith pally build, guess I'll have to research the difficulty information I didn't realize they where going to set it up to be easier for people to get into which I guess is cool but I want my hard ass experience for sure April 25th feels so far away.

Hmmm, didnt know about the new world tendencies. Dont like how other players can affect it, and if there are certain items that can only be obtained in certain tendencies (like Demon Souls), it could disrupt that for people. You can always play offline, but it seems odd for Fromsoft to do that. I will try a quality build, gotta try all those weapons.
Nah man, go in blind. You'll ruin it. It's a true action adventure rpg. Go explore shit first hand. Starting classes don't mean shit. You can dump points into magic, str, dex, vit, end as you level how you want.

If you die a lot. One or two deaths shouldn't mess you up too bad. Been playing for about 2hr now offline and have only leveled once. I've died a couple times by accidentally falling off a ledge and one time completely blindsided by an ogre but other than that it's been smooth sailing. Just hoping servers go up 12pst.
