I was supposed to read Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, and tomorrow morning I have to write an in-class essay on it. Has anyone read this book who wants to hook me up with some help on the two possibilities for essay prompts? :D

And ughh, I underestimated the potency of some of this dank granddaddy purple earlier... I almost passed out while talking to my visiting relatives :smoking: :smoking: :smoking:

Cheers!

I haven't read it but what are the prompts? Cliffnote should have you set.

Thanks, I'll check out cliffnotes, but isn't that one of those sites that charges you for pre-written essays? Oh, also, I think I'll write the essay tonight at home on binder paper and just bust it out during class tomorrow when the teacher isn't looking.

The prompts:

1. "...The sonsummate artistry of Jane Austen transformed this effervescent tale of rural romance into a witty, shrewdly observed satire of English country life..."

In what ways may Pride and Prejudice be considered a satire? What commentary and critique does Austen make about early 19th century British society? Discuss specific characters, plot points, and satirical techniques in your response.

2. "At the heart of this story are [Mr. Bennet's] headstrong second daughter Elizabeth Bennet and her aristocratic suitor Fitzwilliam Darcy-two lovers whose pride must be humbled and prejudices dissolved before the novel can come to its splendid conclusion."

Why is Pride and Prejudice an appropriate title for this text? What does Austen want her readers to understand about these two sentiments and their place in early 19th century British society? Discuss specific characters, plot points, and literary devices in your response.

Ahaha, awesome. Called up a classmate, she completely explained what to write for the first prompt. Amazing where a $5 bribe can get you!
