if ur over 18 go to a lhs, even if u have to drive a bit its worth it to hold your piece before you buy it. plus you can negotiate a price, make sure you like the joints and that its actually what you want. also if its a piece with interesting percolation any shop worth its salt is going to let you hit it with just water in it to see if you like it.
With both local and online headshops you need to do some research to make sure you aren't getting screwed over on cost. Prices vary quite widely from one place to the next. If the store sells vapes, those usually have a retail price, use that to guage the store. Like the one place I shop at sells analog volcanos at around 550-ish, same as Alt, or pretty much all other online retailers that are decent. 2 other stores in the same city sell it at 700 bucks, and those 2 places are also significantly more expensive that the shop I go to for the same stuff. Just to show you how insane the differences in price are... when I was going around town trying to check out all the shops I went to this one shop cause I heard good reviews of it. I walk in, they had decent stuff but this guy is telling me they have the BEST waterpipes (mid range all the way, zob, syn, sheldonblack). I'm looking at a big sheldon black bubbler and ask him how much it is....he tells me 600 dollars...WTF 6 bills for sheldon black prodo. I tell him no way, he immediately comes back with 400. So I say no thanks and just leave without making an offer. I go to the shop that has become my favorite, I see the same bubbler listed for around 280. I tell the employee that I'll take it after I water tested it, they gave me 10% off on the spot, paid around 245 for it. Down from 600. Fucking asshole. I've continued to do business with this same shop, they give me around 20% off for almost everything.
primal expressions, they have 3 or 4 shops, 3 in PA, and 1 in NJ. Their webpage is more for contact info and gallery pics, I don't think they do any sales on there. They do have instagram and sometimes I see them ask someone to kik them for further info so they might sell some stuff that way but mostly it's walk in business.
