  1. Roku definitely

  2. One is much older and more mature than the other. Chrome cast hasn't had a chance to catch up yet.

  3. agreed, but currently with software and other things, Roku beats Chromecast, but Cc seems like an interesting, cheaper, alternative which I'll be getting soon

  4. No youtube on Roku without some workarounds.

  5.
Roku has a $50 dollar variant and it looks just like the Cc.

  7. I just bought both. Roku 3 and a Chrome cast. I use plex, which at the moment is only for plex plus members on the CC. Plex is my media server and Roku has the app native. CC is still a little buggy. But streaming YouTube is nice.

  8. I have a Chromecast and I love it,had some buffering problems at first because my modem was way on the other side of the house. Moved the modem closer and it's fast & crystal clear now.

  9. I have both, and Roku is the best way to go. I like the Chromecast, but it doesn't get used very much.

  10. I also have both and my vote of preference would have to be with roku

  11. Familiar with Roku, heard great things, I've enjoyed it, just been more into DVD's that come equipped with Apps and Wi-Fi.

Chromecast, not familiar, and curious to learn more!

  12. Neither. Buy a Raspberry Pi 2, install Kodi on it, and enjoy.

  13. I'm currently using Chromecast. I've never used Roku before, but I've heard about it way before I did about Cc. But I'm a Google fanatic, and as of right now, it works perfectly. I wouldn't mind giving Roku a try though, either.

  14. Off topic question, sorry but:

Is there a reason to own a roku/Comcast if I have an Xbox one?

My Xbox one already has access to Netflix, YouTube, crackle etc

    Second question:
I'm trying to find a device that lets me plug in via HDMI port and run live cable television through it (through the Internet). Anyone know of anything like that?

  15. Neither. Look up Xbmc, like roku, chromcast but no limits and no fees no prices. Install on pc, configure n test. If you like it buy an android box and upload xbmc config data to enjoy xbmc on a wireless box streaming to your tv.

  16. Takes some research but youll cancel all your providers if you config it correctly. Youtube is god. Lol. Xbmc has live tv, movies tv shows and no limits cuz it scrapes media from servers all over the world! :D

  17. How well does xbmc run on the pi?

  18. Here is the blueprint from Google:

Chromecast is an HDMI input to your monitor of choice that casts/mirrors/streams data from a synced device or chrome tab open and running with Chromecast software installed.

If you use chrome as a native browser, google to Chromecast is like apple to iTunes, but less lag time since the databases are YouTube for search engines, ie Google circles with Google sticks in Google smart Web html5.

  19. My uncle bought the roku stick for my mom. Couldn't pick up a signal since she shares wifi with the neighbor.
Tried bringing it home and trying it out on my tv. The stick is too big to be able both fit in the port and attach the power cable, it's one or the other and because of that it's been useless for the both of us. I wonder if they make HDMI extension cables.
