Taxes on pot sales

Discussion in 'Marijuana News' started by Museyarp, Feb 28, 2014.

  1. The governor of Colorado wants to spend 45.5 million on youth use prevention.

40.4 million for substance abuse treatment and 12.4 million for public health.

He also proposed 5.8 million for a media campaign on marijuana use to point out the health risks.

In addition Colorado police are being trained to spot high drivers. A new 1.9 million Education campaign comes with this warning. "Drive high, get a dui"

What are your thoughts on this?

I believe it should be the parents job to teach kids about safely using the plant instead of negative media being played on tv.

    I guess nobody ever wins.

  2. How can parents teach if they don't know? There are a lot of people out there that don't.

all the parents know is the brainswshed propaganda media they have been shown since 1933 ( u know- tv is always real life and all that) . it will actually be the kids turning the whole scene around and teaching their parents about natural health derived medicine and the resulting healing from said medicine. kids who turn a greedy industry into a healthy one is what will happen...

  4. I didn't even think of that haha good point

  5. That's pretty funny.

  6. Read that article a while back... In a similar one the governor was being interviewed did not personally seem to be a supporter of legalization. IMO he will be voted out if that turns out to be the case. The people want pro legalization people in office, period.

    About those taxes..

I don't personally agree with the allotment and feel it will be changed in time. Potentially legalization only happened because the concerned were explained that revenues would go towards safety and the children.

I do have issue with any misinformation. The "health risks" for instance. As a resident I'll keep a look out for those ads when they start. I've been getting more involved out here politically and i have no problem exposing BS ads if they turn out that way. The people deserve the truth. Those who mislead the citizens will be exposed and out of a job. Health risks... That rebuttal is easily started by reviewing the gov owned, funded or sponsored patents explaining that cannabis treats every condition related to poor regulation of bodily systems or free radical damage... IEEE pretty much ALL.

I would prefer to see more money towards education, preserving and maintaining the state, wildlife, etc. IMO part of the current allotment involved pacifying the concerned and ultra conservative, another part may have involved a little bit of greed and backdoor deals.

  7. Lol 40 million for substance abuse? That's ludacris but whatever let them do what they wanna do.

  8. Ludicrous.

We are all gonna die anyways. Haha

  9.
Heres a good counter argument for those of that state, how much is spend on the same things but for alcohol?

  10. The future is the same for every state around the nation !! Colorado is EPIC!!

  11. The government wants to make money yet they are wasting time and money with the drug war.you would think after all the medical marijuana sales in cali they would realize its profitable... I guess they love their political image too much...

I watched a new documentary last night about Colorado and their recreational weed sales. The price for recreational weed in that shop was $30/gram. In the same area where the dealers are selling eighths for $25-$30.

Taxing it is the right way, but holy shit..$30 a gram? I think they might be taxing it a bit too much.

  13.
Clearly they are taxing it too much. If they can't beat the price of the black/grey market (once taxes are added on), then it will never disappear. Which is a problem to actual legitimization of the industry.

The fact that other legal drugs, such as alcohol, are not taxed in such a fashion is something that will eventually come to head. Though I don't know what direction it will go in. Higher taxes on alcohol, or lower taxes on bud.,

  14. Why is it young people always act as if weed is a "new" thing...like previous generations have never heard of it...then they proceed to call the older generations ignorant...

Do you know that in Canada, in a survey taken in 2010, the highest percentage of people by age group that regularly (more than once a week) use MJ were in the 35+ category?

The thing is...most adults are more discreet about their usage...they use it, but don't feel the need to announce it...

  15. Let me see if I can put this in a way that doesn't insult your intelligence.  Weed cost about a buck to produce and taxes are a flat percentage of sale price.  It ain't the tax man dipping deep into your pocket brother, it's your friendly two-faced neighborhood store owner.  Colorado should feel embarrassed - $30 gram in a legal market.  Total disgrace.

  16.
They ain't dippin into my pocket, my state doesn't even have medical marijuana. I don't see myself ever paying $400/ounce or $30/gram.

Hopefully alot of people are growing their own like the state allows. I grow and if I get caught I'm going to jail.

  17.
Yes... I remember when the shops opened on the 1st, people were charging ~70-80 an 1/8 for herb that was ~35 the day before. The prices were inflated to curb demand. These shops were the ones with lines around the block for 3 hours and were concerned about depleting their inventory too fast.

It's not a gaurantee, but it's estimated that prices will be dropping through the spring here in CO. They had weird inventory restrictions in place for the launch of retail sales... dispensaries were required to basically rob their medical inventory to supply their recreational sales. AFAIK the restrictions are now removed, allowing them to source inventory more realistically.

I agree this is very important because if they don't, the wholesale prices will be so high that the black market would be further encouraged. IMO the market (out here) is about to be flooded with holy-good herbs, as everyone and their mother are jumping over the ability to legally cultivate. Business is expanding and everyone wants in.

  18. 30 bucks a gram?! I wouldn't pay even 20 dollars a gram. 15 at most and it better be good shit!

  19.
Please break down the actual cost of running a pot shop in Colorado (rent, payroll, electricity, inventory, etc..), and how the $30. per gram is divided between cost of doing business, taxes, and actual profit. You are implying you know these things, correct? I'm interested.

  20. Good - I hate seeing anyone getting screwed like that, especially in a "legal" market.  How much do you figure your costs to grow your own are?
