Buying Seeds For My First Grow...

Discussion in 'Marijuana Seeds Banks' started by EuphoricNoni, Dec 16, 2006.

  1. Well I'm searching around looking to buy some seeds to start my first grow. What seed banks do you recommend?

I've heard good things about Dr. Chron and been thinking of buying from them.

Also, I dont want to spend alot of money on my first seeds because I could mess up so im thinking of spending no more than $40 US dollars.

What strains do you guys recommend? I been thinking of getting White Widow and saw that it was only $18.58 US dollars under the nirvana category in Dr. Chrons site? Then I went under the White Widow Web category and saw that it cost $91.14 US dollars? I dont get it? Also what are the different names like Soma Seeds, Nirvana, No Mercy, White Widow Web, are they just categories in which strains are put under?

I live in the US and understand that there is some risk involved when buying seeds so I already have a friends house lined in where the seeds will get shipped to.

Was thinking of a way of payment, should I use my credit card, or my bank card, or pay cash?

    Sorry for all the questions.

    Appreciate any feedback...

  2. I bought a pack of 10 seeds from the dr. and I live in the usa, it came reasonably fast for where I live. For a starter I'd recommend northern lights. I also ordered from nirvana, IMO they are one of the best breeders to order from.

  3. all of those are different seedbanks & breeders. nirvana takes the most popular strains, and does "knock offs" of them and sometimes breed a little bit another strain into it too. eg. i seem to remember reading that their bubblicious has some northern lights in it.

as to nirvana strains, i've heard nothing but glowing reviews for their version of white rhino but i wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole because i despise indicas. if you're going to get 2 strains, i'd recommend one cash crop indica for "getting stoned" and one sativa dominant for getting high. if you're buying nirvana strains, i'd say try jock horror (i have some spice bros. C99 splash & A11g X lien huanh's which are related to jack herer as is $uper $ilver haze so i didn't get jock) for a sativa dominant. if you like the taste of black licorice (not me... it makes me nauseous) try durban poison it really does taste just like licorice and it has an awesome energetic high. i went with pure power plant instead because it tastes like peanut butter even if it has some durban in it.

check the other seed banks out too. high quality seeds has some nice sativa dominant strains. their version of skunk #1 X haze is a knockoff of award winning super haze (i have some of that).

you'll get some freebies with your first oder at docs. i've orered there 3 times with a CC and have gotten my beans in 5-7 hassle free. the pure indica troublemaker freebies they sent were all viable too.

if you want the absolute "most popular" nirvana strain, get their blue mystic, blueberry appears on more top 10 lists than anything else. if you were only going to buy 2 strains, i'd suggest nirvana blue mystic & high quality seeds skunk #1 X haze which is 87.5% sativa but should still be manageable indoors (or durban poison if you love licorice) and if you get troublemakers you'll, you'll have a 100% stinky skunk commerdcial strain too. blueberry can be fussy though as the leaves like to curl. i went with bubblicious & california orange for variety and flavor, otherwise, everything else i have is 75% sativa or more. if you stretch your budget just a tiny bit, a 4 pack of grapefruit seeds might make an awesome sativa dominant with a fruity flavor. it's C99 crossed with a pure sativa. C99 is trippy yet grows fast like an indica so crossing it with a pure sativa would make a plant more manageable than haze. (that's the #2 strain, but it's a pain to grow) had i known about grapefruit, i might have gotten that instead of C99 splash.

stop by my "best strains according to EVERYONE thread. i list the top strains in people's top 10 lists, and give links to cannabis cup results, what's left of the OG strainguide (definately click on the nirvana link and read everyone's experiences with the tops there)

it's tough to recommend strains as everyone has different priorities. my biggest one is avoiding indicas like the plague. hope SOMETHING here helps.

  4. Wow, nice reply Pokernaut, reps+.

Was thinking of getting a Sativa because I love the feeling of getting high more than just being couch locked stoned.

Was wondering why White Widow is only $18.58 US dollars under the nirvana category in Dr. Chrons site and under the White Widow Web category it cost $91.14 US dollars?

So all those different names like soma seeds, nirvana, serious seeds are all different names of breeders right?

I cant decide, im still debating on whether getting some White Widow, Grapefruit(who breeds it?), California Orange bud, Sadhu or Satori (The two last ones due to the mind bending, creativity inspired high that is gives you accord to Dr. Chron).

    Again, appreciate any feedback, thanks.

    :)

  5. I'd agree the grapefruit looks good as does the cinnamon, instead of the WW I'd go with Ice. You can get a 4 pack of femminixed seeds for under 40us. They are located on Dr cronics site under female.seeds.nl.

  6. like i said... nirvan just does knockoffs of more expensive strains. they buy a pack of $100 beans then breed them an sell the results. many other banks do that as well. spice brothers had some of the best strains like C99 at the best prices available, but i think they're out of business as every time i check them out, more of their strains are no longer available. that's why i grabbed their C99 splash beans for $30. i liked the idea of C99 with a small dose of extra trippy lien huanh in it, but had i known about grapefruit, i probably would have chosen that instead.

cinnamon girl, as mentioned, is a rare pheno of jack herer. i might try that next time around when i breed with my peppery $$$ kali mist as cinnamon & pepper sativas should yield an awesome flavor i'd cally curry.

if you hate couchlock... then DEFINATELY grow at least one sativa dominant. jack herer, super silver haze, C99, & apollo 11 are all related. $uper $ilver haze is considered the best strain, but i won't touch it because it likes to get skunky and like the sound of pineapple C99 better because it smells floral and is very trippy. SSH & JH have the same exact genes, but in a different breeding order.

you might want to consider a sativa dominant and maybe california orange then. it's supposed to be very potent, yet clear headed with an interesting orange fruit loops flavor. some phenos of euphoric bubblegum have a bit more sativa leaning too though. i chose both of these "50:50s" for their flavors to be bred with a lemony sativa (was thinking burmese, hawaiian sative & A11 originally, but malawi gold sounds even better down the road) a lemony sativa with a potent yet clear orange sounds like good potential. cali-o has also been compared to mikado which one grower was totally in love with. i only have 2 cali-o beans left and i'm saving them for when i get malawi gold some day.

i wish i had more experience with these strains than what i've read up on (and literally picked the brains of anyone i could who'd rarely give me the actual info i'm seeking for a couple years) to share.

all i know is NOTHING beats thai for a full on potent trippy high, but that's not a practical strain (read haze) to grow as it takes forever and grows the size of a tree, but smaller kali mist is awesome for both it's peppery flavor and total happy energy high (ladies love it allegedly... i wish nirvana would offer that!) and i had great fun with durban poison even if i hate licorice. i think alot of other people hate that flavor too as i never see anyone interested in it. it has been compared to haze more than once, but it grows alot smaller.

if you do decide to go with 2 sativa dominants... try to get two that aren't so closely related eg. jock horror & cinnamon girl.

i recently went with haze skunk because skunk #1 is 75% sativa, yet compact like an indica and it's crossed with amazing haze. the combo has won awards under the super haze title.

it's really tough learning about various sativas though as most growers go with quantity over quality indica doms.

glad to help and that the info is useful. for what i lack in hands on experience with any named strains except thai, kali mist, durban poison & skunk #1, i make up for with years worth of intense window shopping. ;)

i actually got banned from a site because i kept trying to get comparison info which was like pulling a tooth until a few members got tired of seeing me asking the same (unanswered) questions over and over, got in my face and i told them to go frog themselves one too many times. LOL

if you definately want 2 sativas... maybe go with grapefruit & durban poison. grapefruit is probably really trippy whereas the durban i smoked was more euphoric than trippy, but the flavor is definately exotic. you'd surprise the daylights out of friends that have never smoked a real sativa strain or one with a genuine flavor either with durban. i had considered growing it myself just for sharing, but i'd hate wasting space on strain i'd never smoke because i hate it's flavor.

let me put that statement in perspective though... i'd STILL rather smoke durban poison and endure it's nauseating black licorice flavor than smoke ANYTHING i've ever PAID for after thai disappeared. as disgusting as the flavor (to me) is, the high totally makes up for it and is way better than 22+ years of nothing but couchlock. i really wish i liked the taste of licorice.

    i like red licorice though

  7. Awesome Pokernaut. :hello:

    Who breeds Grapefruit and Durban?

Also, so I didn't quite get on why White Widow bred by Nirvana is considerably much cheaper than White Widow bred under White Widow Web? If I buy it under Nirvana will it still be the same quality?

Once again feedback will be greatly appreciated.

  8. Another question, I'm looking into buying feminized seeds mainly because I'm only going to be growing no more than two plants for my first grow (maybe even one) so chances are I might get a male and I do not want to waste my time.

When looking around, I saw that feminized seeds have a stability percentage, what exactly does that mean?

    EX. http://www.drchronic.com/products.asp?recnumber=694

Is there any drawbacks in getting feminized seeds, anything I need to know in advanced?

  9. To clarify on your first question: Doc is a seedbank, and on that seedbank are listed the products of different breeders. A seedbank is like a store, just a retailer, whereas the breeders are like manufacturers and brand names, they produce the seeds. I don't believe the Doc lists other seedbanks. So you could think of Doc as like Macy's and Nirvana as like Ralph Lauren.

Each breeder will come up with their own version of a given strain. The prices may reflect quality of the end product but also may only reflect that the breeder is larger and can keep prices low.

As for femmed: stability refers to the variation within a strain that might be found. Within a strain are phenotypes, which is the different ways that strain can appear depending on the particular genetic mix. Higher stability means less variation -- the breeder has refined a genetic mix to eliminate the variation to undesirable traits and to have only the desired traits (such as hardiness, fullness of growth, potency, etc).

I have used femmed seeds no problem.

  10. if this is ur first grow, I wood go w/ top44 inside, outside, big bud, u should get a few grows under ur belt before paying some high$$$$$$ on some beans, happy growing, and good luck:D

  11. i myself like www.soulseeds.co.uk they give free seeds with every order nomatter how much you spend and they stock regular seeds and auto flowering strains i beleave there around 25 gbp. and that includes shipping they are based out of the united kindom or order from sensi there skunk#1 is cheap as are a few of there white strains only problem is they wont ship to the states so to get from sensi you would need a middle man who live in a country they do ship to

  12. nirvana just buys expensive & popular seed strains, plants and breeds them, then resells them at a lower rate. that's what a "knokoff" is... a cheaper copy of an expensiver designer item, but most people i've seen have liked nirvana quality well enough unlike people who buy fake gucci on a street corner when it falls apart in a week.

as to DP, ALOT of breeders offer that at different prices. nirvana does for as little as $15 at gypsy's to $18 at doc's. doc also sends freebies, but only on your first order. i'm a big fan of doc's service which is why i keep going back even if i don't get freebies anymore.

if you wanted grapefruit, you could get a 4 pack of fems at doc's femaleseeds.nl page. i posted a link in your other thread. femseeds also has 4 packs of the white widow you're interested in for just $30. as a 1st time grower, i'd recommend C99 instead of grapefruit though because it has a little more indica in it and should be easier to grow than a nearly 100% sativa. sativas do like to get big and are better suited to SCROG grows.

as a pure sativa lover, you can bet i'm not considering anything but scrog tables. ;)

i'll put up with the wait and hassle.
