  2. Odorless huh?

As in no terpenes? Or the terpenes are disabled?

Also... Vancouver? I'm not current on their medicinal situation but isn't Canada currently making it completely F'd for regular people to access the meds? I remember reading something about people not even being able to grow... Don't quote me on that though because it was something I read in passing.

I love science but something about this rubs me the wrong way. If it was odorless, via terpenoids being disabled, that also means the "end product" would be much less effective than healthy plants - which retain their terpenoid profiles. There's a ton of synergistic medicinal action going on with them terpenoids!

And the reason I was asking about Canada's "access situation" - when scientists are provided thousands (millions?) of dollars to undergo these developments, it's for patented-product development.

IE the locals are barred from growing their own, while companies like this follow suit of GW Pharmaceuticals and the like. A cannabis strain that has been made as a result of labwork and genetic modification is now able to be patented. Odorless cannabis is just an excuse to have something to modify, to allegedly appease the public, when reality is they needed to alter something in order to make it unique enough for a patent.

All these companies are jocking around to make money. I don't hold that against them, but they could at least be honest about it.

If their concern was helping the sick, and not patents, all they'd have to do is explain to people to keep breeding high-CBD strains. As if the odor was a bad thing. No odor = no terpenes = not as effective medicine.

It's already bad enough that companies like GW Pharmaceuticals are patenting applications for cannabis to treat diseases. Basically they coined the "patent" of using high-CBD extract, when within certain ratios of THC:CBD. I believe anywhere from 1:10 is their proprietary ratio. Pretty disgusting considering these asshats had nothing to do with the thousands of years of cultivation and knowledge-sharing among true cannabis supporters.

Thank you for posting this and please understand my hostility towards the FDA and pharmaceutical companies has nothing to do with you :smoke:

  3. Yep its the second stage of legalization in our lovely society. They will be genetically modifying our weed it will end up cross breeding with the rest. Monsanto status. Next the patenting process where they will be patenting strains they had nothing to do with other than having the funding that Dj Short, Kyle Kushman don't. Sorry I'm not into huge conglomerations dominating industries that are just fine the way they are.

  4.
funny you say that.  this morning my brother asked me how long before Monsanto is involved now that's becoming legal (e.g., colorado)

  5. in my mind real genetic modification is in nature ( thousands upon thousands of years) when the wind changes direction and the air affects the resin production in the plant or molds and fungus invade making the plant stronger with time . we will seriously fall short with our quick mods that totally fuck up an organism.

you want to know some kick ass gen mods, get with the monks in the mountains growing pot for thousands of years. they got the genetics of God weed!!!!

  6.
    Indeed...

An interesting sidenote - Monsanto has recently put lots (and lots) of dollars into selective breeding techniques. In short, rather than rely solely on genetic engineering they are focusing on the time-honored strategies of selective breeding. If I'm not mistaken they are enhancing this process via their gene mapping technology.

It's very interesting because the educated citizens, agricultural researchers and scientists who are against GM foods make the point that we can achieve better foods and yields by utilizing selective breeding and other (sustainable) strategies - no need for GM. Why hand over the ownership of the food supply to 6-10 chemical companies?

Their new "path" shows that GM isn't the end-all, be-all. I don't think it is solely because of the anti-GMO movement but I'm sure that plays a huge role. Honestly I think it is because it allows them to develop a food item that is able to be patented, can be higher yielding or carry other benefit, while STILL technically being able to be certified organic - if it is solely the result of selective breeding and NO genetic modification is involved.

That, IMO is the end-game for groups like that - patents. Look at what GW pharmaceuticals has been busy doing - among other things they now OWN the patent of the application of treating gilomas with THC, CBD in a ratio of ANYWHERE between 1:1 and 1:20 THC:CBD.

Such groups want patents (control) over the market. Barring regulatory restrictions that would have to be implemented to prevent it, I would not be surprised at all to see biotech companies develop a high-yield cannabis AND/OR industrial hemp strains. It's only a matter of time. I also would not be surprised to see the non-GMO movement extend into the world of cannabis/hemp, and people actively seeking out growers who still propagate the "heirloom" varieties.

  7. Uh can you not just set your weed on the table like 2 days it won't have as intense of a smell

  8. Yes it will, and your room will smell of it

  9. binging hemp back will be bringing in a powerhouse from about 100 years back ( just like everything back then - tough as shit) . that will change the game for the weak ass non health/mutant prone genetics these huge companies have produced relying on more and more man made artificial you name it to sustain the stuff. lets just hope we don't screw hemp up to bad, hell it is so tough it might not let us anyway

  10. Hmm I'm going to disagree with my oz sitting on my desk the smell isn't as strong anymore

  11. Must be some lame bud than

well,  taking away the smell of cannabis..  it is kind of like taking the smell away from a horny woman before having sex- I am a man and that is the best smell in the world- if any guys here do not go down on your girl you have serious problems and will be one of the first people in line to take smell out of cannabis. a smelly cannabis bud is just like a ripe horny women ready for sex and the smell of horny buds ( trichomes and terpenes) is what it is all about.   :)   just smelling a bag of smelly cannabis will direct terpines to your brain mass that connects you with the most pre historic of wants and desires for when the female plant sends out here wanting( smelly resins)  to the winds of climatic change.  you can be a part of that for just a moment by taking a whiff and absorbing those wonderful fragrances of Mary Jane

edit... I guess I speak for every male cannabis here and yet to be here on the planet---  do not take smell out off cannabis how will we know which way to send our special air male dust, we will be like flying blind in a dust storm( literally).

  13. And odorless strain might sell well at the seedbanks for people super worried about stealth.

  14.
Don't quote me on it, but usually this type of research results in patents and situations of exclusive use. That's the only reason the financing comes for this type of science work. I doubt their strains will be available to John & Joanne Q. Public - it looks like they are gearing up for treatment solutions like GW Pharmaceuticals is doing.

The terpenoids are part of the medicine; a very important part. One in particular greatly reduces the potential hazards of inhaling cannabis smoke. Others play synergistic roles as well.

The way some of these articles are written by the news/media really misleads people into false assumptions. The biggest one is that their labwork results in miraculously effective strains of cannabis capable of curing x,y, and z and that everything on the street is mexican schwag. And you better watch out for anything with THC because it's psychoactive!! Truthfully, the people can individually breed plants or on local, community levels. They can track and develop the necessary strains to end up with something wonderful, like Charlotte's Web.

Truthfully, THEIR result would likely be vastly superior (medicinally) than cannabis strains/products that completely eliminate/exclude THC or terpenoids. Charlotte's Web will always be much more effective at treating Epilepsy than a CBD-extract-only product - because of all that synergy goodness. CBD is very beneficial but people are being misled about all this anti-THC info being spread by those who stand to benefit from CBD-only extractions.

Patents and exclusive use is the wrong way to go. Open access to the whole plant, legal to own, use and cultivate, legal to prepare whole plant extractions. Everything else is just smoke and mirrors geared for control and profiteering.

  15. Im not trying to ingest any GMO marijuana.

  16. Odorless weed? Who doesnt like smelling their dank bag and nugs? Not to mention the taste is probably gone or heavily diminished. They are playing god when they shouldn't. This is a lot like genetically modified foods in a way. Keep it original!
