  3. Hi, wave. Regards to one the the best writers in GC. The Tent City, like the name. Interested in what you anticipate will be different as you try going with Autos.

  4. I'm crossing my fingers for great things from this one auto. It's only so I can utilize both tents during the white rhino veg and it was a freebie seed so why not! If it turns out well I'll look at doing an all auto run sometime down the road. I've been starting to read up more about autos but if anyone has experience and some pointers I'd love to hear em!

  5. Ooo I just remember I forgot to elaborate on an important point.

My big plan with this setup is to work towards a nice perpetual harvest/garden. What I am going to so initially is flower this auto while the photo period white rhino plants veg. When the auto flower is ready to harvest I'll take her down and move the rhinos into the flower tent. I will anticipate about 10 weeks of flowering with the rhinos so about 2ish weeks into flowering those I'll start the next batch of 4 seeds/clones. And so on and so one. Eventually I'd like to acclimate to harvesting around once a month, but that's going to take practice and more knowledge to balance everything.

  6. Thanks for stopping by man! And hey no hard feelings, I'm cool with any teams fans as long as your civilized and can have an adult conversation lol! Glad to have ya aboard and I'll be sure to pop into your grow and poke around :)

  7. I also just read through a lot of your last thread - You recovered very quickly and ended up basically with your goal weight.. was impressive

My grow is going through similar problems so I am interested to see how you adapt and vamp up your second grow as I too will be starting me 2nd grow soon

I'll be following this thread! GL, have fun, and best wishes to you and your family  :bongin:

  8. I really enjoyed your first grow journal and learned a lot from it. It was the journal that convinced me I could do my own grow, which I am in the last couple of weeks of. I'll definatley keep an eye out over here now. Thanks for providing so much information as you learn. I'm sure it has inspired and educated more people than you realize.

Wish I had the room that you do to get something perpetual setup.

As a side note, my Mother in Law passed from MS several years ago. I think what you are doing for your dad is down right awesome.

  9. Appreciate the nice words! It's an awesome feeling to know I helped motivate others to start down this path to self sufficiency.

Luckily dad isn't fully disabled at this point but it's getting hard for him to keep up with their house. I figured if I can take away his weed bill and stuff that's what I'll do. This White Rhino strain is supposed to be really good for MS so I have my fingers crossed I can do them justice.

Hey Hypoxic   sub'd in for sure man

my little bit of advice to start things off... the number one thing I've noticed with people here on the city is how grossly underlit most tent setups are. I've commented so much on it I'm starting to feel like I'm the light Nazi. with a 4x4 tent you should have AT LEAST 1kw. now anyone would tell you 600w will work fine, but I like to maximize efficiency and the footprint of 16 sqft requires much more than 600w. my preference is 2x600s. same with the 3x3. 9 sqft takes about 600w. I understand you're just using the 400 from your last grow, but if you get the chance to upgrade, I would grab two more 600w for your two tents, and either scrap the 400w or even better, get a little mother tent going and keep her under your 400. this would be great for you achieving that perpetual grow goal. :smoke:

oh ya you can of course check out the grow in my sig to see a 600w in a 3x3 area-the results are proving thus far fantastic!

  13. I hear ya. Since I'm doing 4 under the 600 they'll be much closer packed under the hood. I plan on upgrading and growing everything but the tents won't change so I got the slightly bigger to grow into over time. I forgot it was in my old journal where I talked more about it. When I got this tent my end goal was 2 600s in it. However I do not have unlimited funds so one piece at a time while I learn the ropes. Plus I have to be mindful of electrical costs ATM so I can't go overboard yet. I appreciate the advice, trust me I share your thoughts. I'm hopeful that being able to closely pack the 4 plants under the 600w even though it'll waste a lot of side space that they will still produce well. And at the end of the day I only need enough to supply me and my dad, I don't grow for anyone else or anything so if yield isn't totally there yet that's ok as I'm sure it'll still be enough for us and the quality should be top notch regardless.

  14. Hi there Hypoxic! Thanks for commenting on one of my query threads earlier, I wouldn't have ended up touring Tent City had you not.

So, just wanted to say I'm definitely in for following this one. I love the effort you've gone to with the presentation of the thread and Tent City itself looks like my own dream set-up I've been fantasising about for a potential perpetual harvest situation. That is a thing of the future though. At the moment I have a tent which is 24x63x70 inches (or roughly that... I just had to convert those lengths from metric for you) and a small, small wooden box lined (15x20x35) with mylar for seedlings and veg for a few weeks. Can't grow them much more than 6 inches in there...
I'm happy with my set up for now, but it's a make do situation at the moment.
I'm going to grow some autos after my current grow is done. Just cos they're quick and I've got to move out of my current house around the end of June...
I'm only doing them in 11 litre pots (square fabric dirt pot ones) though - so like 3 US gallons. I did a lot of reading about it and it doesn't seem like they'll make much use of more soil than that. maybe a bit more if I had more light and stuff, but I guess what I'm trying to say is 10 gallons might be overkill..?

Anyway, I'm not here to talk about the size of your pots - I'm here to watch and participate what looks like it's going to be an awesome journal.

Oooh, and another thing. I like glass too. I don't have a lot though. I just admire it from a distance mostly...
I've wanted a nice glass bong for ages and I bought myself a relatively affordable one the other day as a warm up. I loved it. Bought some hemp, bee-line wick to use with it as well for better taste and no butane inhalation from lighters etc... anyway, I knocked it over yesterday and it fell perfectly on the bowl so the stem has snapped off in the joint. Can't get it out yet... It's a nightmare.

So I've learned that I should hold off on the big glass investment and buy myself another affordable glass bong.

I also broke a glass spoon a couple of years ago when I'd let it get real dirty and was cleaning it a little to aggressively... Haven't re-invested yet.

So anyway, my next investments glass-wise.. I'm thinking I want a new spoon, a new bong and possibly a nice bubbler... that I can smoke oil/wax/shatter in... Don't know a lot about those though... Any hints? I'm in the UK and oil these oils and waxes aren't really very popular or common. I can get some though, just need to learn more about it all.

Maybe I should just buy a bong and get a nail and dome for it or whatever instead of buying a bubbler solely for stuff I wont get very often...

Right, that's my input sort of... Sorry it's so convoluted.

  15.
My normal pot size is a 12"x12" square pot which is roughly 5 gallons (sorry i'm too baked to do the conversion lol).  The auto is getting a 10 gallon tote for a couple reasons.  First is since she is getting the 600w all to herself I want to give her every chance possible to just go nuts and get huge.  More soil means more opportunity for the plant to keep getting bigger and bigger.  Obviously this is better utilized with photo period plants since you can keep growing those roots to fill up the pot until you flip it over to flower.  Second reason I'm using it is that I wanted to try out the Smart Pot totes for the air pruning and improved oxygenation in the soil and I also was given a bag of Roots Organic Green Lite soil that I wanted to try out to possibly switch all the plants to.  Just happened that the bag was 10 gallons worth so I dumped the whole thing in the tote.  I may end up going to 5 gallon Smart Pot totes for all plants in the future, we'll see.  I also use 5 gallon pots since I only do 4 plants at a time I have more room but I'd still like to use as much of the canopy space as I can so why not right?

Oh glass...my true love.  I'm fascinated by the who process of creating great smoking pieces and works of art.  From designing a new perc design to full on heady pieces.  I'll definitely be posting lots of glass porn here soon lol.  In regards to a new piece I would definitely recommend a nice bubbler.  That is actually my next purchase and i'm just waiting on tax return money.  You should cruise over aqua labs and browse bubblers or here on GC.  Good entry level US made artists are HVY Glass, Apix, C2 (Custom Creations) along with others.  If you wanna spend some dough than look at Mobius, Illadelph, Sovereignty Glass.  I'm looking at a ~ 11" bubbler that i'll post when it happens...don't want anyone taking my piece before I can order it lol.

    Glad to have ya aboard!

  17. Good morning Tent City residents :)

I wanted to remind anyone reading to make sure you install at least one smoke detector in your grow area. Also a really good idea to install a fire extinguisher at a location near the grow area but not so close that if there was a problem that it might become inaccessible.

You can grab a cheap smoke detector for ~$10 at Walmart and a fire extinguisher can be had for pretty cheap too. Too often we growers get comfortable and some of the risks fade to the back of our minds.

Properly functioning and maintained equipment along with responsible setup and running of electrical lines and cords should eliminate almost all fire and safety hazards but you never know.

Not to get too preachy but safety first!

  18. yeah, I definitely can understand your concern with energy usage. Nice thing about having just the 600 in that tent is that you might have some space to move around your plants and access them from each side. something that, through my past few grows I wish I had. including this one. even though I'm just in a little 3x3, it can still be a real bitch to reach the opposite side. especially with the scrog net in there, I cant exactly rotate the plant whenever I need.
