Atheists are among the most hated minorities in the world, so don't expect many people to be upfront about their position.
I believe that religion is the delusional perception. But it is worth arguing about when those beliefs start to dictate my laws, objectify women, or spread bigotry. It's not about me being right and you being wrong.... Its about your beliefs dictating my reality. Very true. There are still 7 states where an atheist is banned from holding public office via the state constitution. Yet look at countries like Sweden that boast almost an 80% atheism rate alongside ultra low crime statistics. We, as Americans are way behind the rest of the world.
