Vg/thc extraction. Ratios, length and other questions.

Discussion in 'Weed Edibles' started by R0ck3tFU3L, Feb 15, 2014.

  1. So I have 28 grams of material to work with and was interested in extracting the thc using vegetable glycerin but I have a few questions. How many grams of material should I use to fluid oz's of thc? I was told 5-7grams for ever two fl oz's of vg but I just wanted to make sure I had the right numbers to work with. I plan on placing the vg and the material on my eletric stove on a low setting so it simmers for about 6-8 hours as i stir ever 15 mins. then separate the bud and the oil with cheese cloth. Is my information correct? I just wanted to make sure before I did anything.

  2. First off, are you using bud or trim?

It all depends on how concentrated you want it. I can tell you how to concentrate it to a couple drop dosage, or a tsp. It's all about your preference. However a pretty standard concentration would be achieved by grinding the plant material and putting a little more than the amount needed to completely cover it. So if you use a canning jar, you would fill up about 1/2-3/4 full (or however much you have) and pour VG into that until you have about a 1/4" layer above the plant material. This is usually about a 15-30mL dosage. Depends on tolerance of course.

Your process is okay. I like to keep it together as long as I can before straining. Seems to be more potent the longer you let it sit (to an extent obviously). Few weeks at room temp in a canning jar with a daily hot water bath will produce a nice end product. If I were you I would start heating it like you said (just keep temps reasonable. VG retains heat very well so don't overdo it) just to get things going, then let it sit a few weeks. When you want a sample, just use a dropper or something and pull a little bit out. Then once it is ready, heat it a little bit to allow it to pour more easily and run through a cheesecloth.

  3. @[member="KillerKush87"] All bud/nugs i will be using. concentration wise, I would want a couple drop dosage. since vg/pg are the bases of all efluid I'd assume with the thc extracted into vg would vape well out of an electric cigarette so It would be nice if a few tokes got you where you wanted to be. and for whatever reason, I assumed by cooking it for 6-8 hours it would eliminate having too hold it in a jar for a few weeks. but you would need 6-8 hours just to "get it started"? I wast rying to see if there's anyway you could cut out having to keep a jar for a few weeks by cooking it like butter or even in a slow cooker. any other info will be greatly appreciated! thanks!
