Chefziggys First Grow - NSAF/SIP/Organic

  1. Probably not. Try leaving more leaf on to increase the time it takes to dry. Also do you wet trim or dry trim?

  2. Try dry trim, I think you'll like it if you don't already.

  3. I did a little bit of both. Took off the fan leaves and the bigger sugar leaves while they were easy to get to. Then did the smaller sugar leaves when dry.

Meanwhile today, I've been enjoying the nice weather while doing some of my more public gardening.

  4.
Well that works out to 22.something%, so not too bad I guess.  But I can see what you mean about not taking wet weights.

  5. Here's the rest of NSA3 before I took the remainder of the bigger buds.  Didn't bother wet weighing this time.

  6. Those look nice and sticky. :)
I like the colors and the way you lit the very first one.

  7.
    They are super sticky.

Thanks.  Just a beauty dish on a boom.  Nothing fancy, just what I had handy.

Damn, ChefZ that looks like some excellent smoke!! And great photography as usual man! You should post somma these in the "Post Your Organic Budshots" thread! :D Hats off to you dude, what a stellar first run.

  9.
    Thanks! Might just do that.

In the meantime, I got good news and bad news.  First, the good news.  My clones have been under 12/12 since day one so I already have preflowers and can tell that one of the two plants I took cuttings from are male.  The other appears to be female.

The bad news is that I got them all mixed up and don't know yet if it was BS2 or BS3 that is male.  But I did flip the lights in the grow room to 12/12 on Saturday, so we'll know soon enough about all four of the Baggins.  Then I can seriously plan my next run.

Pandora is rocking and it's Trimmin' Time in Tennessee!

These are the leftover buds after the cola harvest.

And some example roots from the cloner.  Tossed two obvious males yesterday and am watching a third closely.  Still no solid signs on the Baggins teenagers.

Edit:  Had another 12.56g of decent bud.  Not spectacular, but 23.99g from an Auto isn't too shabby from what I'm given to understand.  And I'm pretty sure the other two are going to produce more.  Particularly since I'm going to let them go a lot longer.

And I've got 8.2g of sugar leaf and assorted trim by products in the hash jar.  Plus a few more popcorn buds that are still in the drying tent.  I'm happy with my first plant. :bongin:

  11. Woo-wee! After I got done with the afternoon's trim job, and weighing of the total in the hash jar I noticed the glass bowl I was using to catch the trim had a lot of kief left in it. Managed to roll up a BB sized ball of hash that was very nice indeed.

    Oh! The horror...

    IMG_20140421_183908.jpg

Baggins #2 and the perhaps prophetically named Twisted Sister are both males and are thus headed to the compost pile. My wife had a hard time understanding this.

  13.
I had a hard time throwing my males out last time. I made hash with them instead.

  14. Being as young as these are I didn't think they would have much to offer the hash jar. Did they make any decent hash?

I thought about taking them to the outdoor almost-greenhouse but it just isn't secure enough. At some point down the road I would like to try some breeding but I'm not there yet.

    So....chop chop.

  15. Haven't posted in a bit so here's a little bud porn.  These are looking so good!  Mostly cloudy trichs with quite a few amber.  Planning on taking the main colas on Monday which will be 80 days from seed.  They were advertised as 60.

Sorry about the size on these but I want people to be able to see the details I struggled to get.  Also, is the purpling normal senescence or something else?  And it looks like every stinkin' bud has at least one hair on it.

  16. Looks great dude!  I love the big pics with all the details visible...... the purpling is normal... probably means the girls either have a genetic predisposition to colors, or they were exposed to some cold nights at times.

Yeah, it was decent. It wasn't like the hash I'm used to getting from my dealer but it was a worthwhile use of what would otherwise have been trash. I didn't chop them right away though. I put them out in a closet in the garage for a few more weeks and used the fluorescent it had there. I didn't do a great job taking care of them. There were many days I either forgot to turn the light off or on, it got cold, I didn't water them regularly. They were clearly stressed but they still produced hash worth smoking.

You're making some great bud and bud pr0nz! Looking forward to the smoke report.

  18. I'll keep that in mind as I sex the Thai Stick and White Rhino.

  19. Sooo close.  Here is NSA 1 & 2 at 78 days from planting.  These are easily going to top an ounce each and from the looks of things they aren't ready yet.  Trichromes are still mostly cloudy.  Lots of fresh white pistils being thrown too.

I switched to the HPS bulb yesterday after two weeks of the MH at 12/12.  Man that thing is fuggin' bright!  But the Baggins ladies are responding nicely. 92 days from seed.

    BS-92-1.jpg   BS-92-2.jpg

    And the clones of BS3.

    BS3Clones.jpg

  20. So today was 80 days from seed for NSA1 & NSA2.  11 weeks and three days on plants the seller had listed as 60-75 days.  I took just the top fourth of each plant this afternoon and plan to let the rest go another week.

NSA1 Main cola and top branches.  (I also clipped one more that isn't shown.)
    NSA1-80-1.jpg   NSA1-80-2.jpg

NSA2 Main cola and top branches
    NSA2-80-1.jpg   NSA2-80-2.jpg

Wet weights for the two are NSA1 86.49g and NSA2 46.39g for a total of 132.88g wet.  Figuring about a 20% dry weight after trimming and all ends up at about 26.5g going into the jars just from these three pieces.  I think I'm going to end up harvesting about 3.5oz from all three of these autos.   A good half ounce over my goal.  Not too shaby.
