Whats the real truth about weed destroying brain cells?

Discussion in 'Marijuana Consumption Q&A' started by jvsdiojisio, Feb 1, 2014.

  1. I heard it "destroys brain cells" since your brain is developing until 21. By destroying brain cells I heard it means it uses your short term memory as a doormat until new brain cells grow, so pretty much it just affects your short term memory..is that true? Is that why it's legal when you're 21 in colorado and washington by the way?

  2. Ive heard that harvard studies show that it actually promotes brain cell growth, not like it would be shown on any mass media though.

  3. The only way to kill brain cells while smoking weed is if you starve your brain of oxygen while smoking weed. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum

  4. 21 is the legal age in Colorado and Washington because the bills they passed were to regulate and tax cannabis like alcohol, and the age for alcohol is 21. Cannabis does not kill brain cells

  5. Yeah exactly. Yes, smoking weed can destroy brain cells, but it has nothing to do with the weed in and of itself. Its the matter of holding your breath so often.Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Grasscity Forum mobile app

  6. its not good to burn anything and inhale, but nothing has shown weed harming brain cells

Cannabis is neuroprotectant and promotes the growth of new brain cells.  :metal:
    Badabing Badaboom.

NORML and other sites have good information on this.

  8. Kill brain cells? Stop listening to people who've never even smoked.. That's just ridiculous

  12. The government wanted a reason to prohibit it and on top of "reefer madness" and all of the other made up nonsense, this "study" was conducted on MONKEYS! They were locked in a container that was pumped full of weed smoke for days. Now why would this cause you to lose brain cells? Because of the lack of oxygen in the cage from being pumped full of smoke. You could have pumped the least harmful known smoke in the world into that tank and the result would have been the same or worse. I say worse because cannabis is actually a neuro-protectant and it could have slowed the brain damaging process by protecting the brain. Of course without oxygen, you still will not function for very long no matter what you put into your body. Used properly, cannabis has been shown to regenerate brain cells. So the truth is, it doesn't kill brain cells. No study has ever been conducted on humans that was shown to kill brain cells.

  13. New studies show marijuana actually does the exact opposite of destroying brain cells. Marijuana is shown to help brain cells regenerate in patients with traumatic brain injures.
Pretty crazy how we are all led to believe pot kills brain cells. When in reality it repairs the brain.
    a true miracle plant

  14. The study that supposedly showed that was completely flawed.  They hooked up a mask to a rat and pumped 2-3 joints worth of smoke into it's face.  They basically suffocated the thing and that's why it got brain damage.

  15. Each marijuana you smoke kills one brain cell

  16. Lets not spread false info.  Unless you hold your breath for minutes you aren't going to get brain damage.  Also smoking weed doesn't destroy brain cells.

  17. I think is comes down to the big lebowskis formula of

    [(JointsSmoked x THCpercentage x ageFirstSmoked) /  (WhiteRussians * total days smoked * 1)] / 1/amountOfBrainCellsinyourhead = cells killed per day

  18. Somebody get granny on this thread! She will have the answer :smoking:

  19. Think of it this way, eating a mcdonalds hamburger is worse than smoking a joint. You decide.Sent from my iPad Air

\njvsdiojisio, I am glad that you asked! It shows that you are willing to learn! :yay:   And I am quite willing to give you what you need to educate yourself!  You see those studies I posted? I have over 1000 pages like that!   To get your free copy, all you have to do is check out the bottom of my sig and send me an email. Or you can use the PM system and send me your email address.

And actually, cannabinoids are neuroprotectants and will protect the brain against all sorts of problems! :hello:

“THC blocks an enzyme called acetylcholinesterase, which speeds the formation of amyloid plaque in the brains of people with Alzheimer's disease. The Alzheimer's drugs Aricept and Cognex work by blocking acetylcholinesterase. When tested at DOUBLE the concentration of THC, Aricept blocked plaque formation only 22% as well as THC, and Cognex blocked plaque formation only 7% as well as THC.”
