USA just hit another first down Missouri to legalize.

Discussion in 'Marijuana News' started by Weedology, Jan 18, 2014.

  1. If they get enough sigs and approve it....

  2.

" To make the November 2014 ballot, organizers must gather 157,778 valid voter signatures for at least one of them by May 4, and they must gather signatures from at least 8% of registered voters in six of the state's eight US congressional districts. "

  3. all they have to do is find a university close by, in my city that would be done in a few days

  4. I am so happy to be alive at this time.  We are all witnessing and some even writing history.  Never thought that these kinds of movements would happen in our lifetime.

  5. @[member="dankness420"] i didnt think this would happen in my lifetime either its amazing how rec use legalization started this snowball effect

  6. I'd love to see Shoji Tabuchi after getting high as fook

OK, blades, time for all of you in Missouri to get busy!  This is going to be all over the local news!  How about putting in a few replies and educating folks?  You are in the "show me" state, so SHOW THEM!

So what to show them? :confused_2:  This is one of my favorites- everyone fears Alzheimer's!

    Marijuana May Slow Alzheimer's      (news - 2006)
    http://www.webmd.com/alzheimers/news/20061006/marijuana-may-slow-alzheimers

“THC blocks an enzyme called acetylcholinesterase, which speeds the formation of amyloid plaque in the brains of people with Alzheimer's disease. The Alzheimer's drugs Aricept and Cognex work by blocking acetylcholinesterase. When tested at DOUBLE the concentration of THC, Aricept blocked plaque formation only 22% as well as THC, and Cognex blocked plaque formation only 7% as well as THC.”

Now what would your average "Joe Missouri" think after reading that? Especially if his beloved "Great-Aunt Hattie" died of Alzheimer's? The "trick" to converting folks over to the idea of legalization is to make it personal! If it affects THEM, they will listen!

So what else can we use to get their attention? 1 in every 8 American women WILL get breast cancer! That is an unacceptable statistic when we are talking about our mothers, sisters, cousins, aunts, girlfriends/wives and daughters! One of the more aggressive types of breast cancer is called "triple negative"- it is also difficult to treat, and has a higher mortality rate than other breast cancers.

Cannabis has a compound in it called cannabidiol, or CBD.  Unlike THC, CBD has NO high, but it does have a remarkable effect on "triple negative" breast cancer cells in a petri dish. The original study was done in 2006, but the news did not reach the American public for another six years.

Pot compound seen as tool against cancer      (news – 2012)
    http://www.sfgate.com/health/article/Pot-compound-seen-as-tool-against-cancer-3875562.php#page-1

“When McAllister and Desprez exposed the ("triple negative " breast cancer) cells to cannabidiol in a petri dish, the cells not only stopped acting "crazy" but they also started to revert to a normal state… The researchers stressed cannabidiol works only on cancer cells that have these high levels of ID-1 and these do not include all cancerous tumors but, rather, aggressive, metastatic cells. But they've found such high levels in leukemia, colorectal, pancreatic, lung, ovarian, brain and other cancers.”

    The original study-

Cannabidiol as a novel inhibitor of Id-1 gene expression in aggressive breast cancer cells.
    (full - 2007)      http://mct.aacrjournals.org/content/6/11/2921.long

“CBD represents the first nontoxic exogenous agent that can significantly decrease Id-1 expression in metastatic breast cancer cells leading to the down-regulation of tumor aggressiveness.”

Note that "nontoxic"! CBD not only doesn't get you high, it has no side effects beyond feeling calm!  No nausea, no muscle pain, no hair loss, no NOTHIN! When CBD was first discovered, they gave volunteers HUGE intravenous doses to see what would happen. NADA! The volunteers felt calm and relaxed, nothing more.

Now, considering the way those "triple negative" cells reacted to a single dose of CBD, what do you think might happen if a tumor and its surrounding area were to be injected multiple times with large doses of CBD? We don't know - because of prohibition, virtually all US research on CBD and other phytocannabinoids is all but banned!

And if your cancer doesn't have the ID-1 gene, CBD can still help!  Tumors trick your body into making extra blood vessels (angiogenesis) so they can grow faster! CBD puts an end to that! :hello: (No quote needed. I think the title says it all!)

Cannabidiol inhibits angiogenesis by multiple mechanisms.

\nOK, that gives each of you enough "ammo" to write completely different comments that can show WHY cannabis needs to be legalized In ALL of the states! :smoke:

And check out the bottom of my sig, or PM me your email address, to get you own FREE PDF copy of "Granny Storm Crow's List", so you can find other studies and articles to educate everyone! ps- I'm not asking you to do anything that I'm not already doing- I have commented in the original article- #2.

  8. It?  More like them - 13 of them.  Looks like a page right out of the California playbook - too many players means too many separate interests.  Divided they fall.

  9. Good luck but don't get your hopes up...Missouri is ran by a backwards governing mindset....with Roy Blunt holding the reins to the law makers voting power.

  10. I hope this Denver and Seattle super bowl changes a lot on this movement. hope for a marijuana commercial! it could be possible and that would be great!

  11. We tried this last year and barely got half the required signatures.

Missouri is a prime example of the average neo conservative backwards ass mindset that constitutes most of these states legislatures and executives. I'll be shocked if anything productive comes of thisSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  15. I think it is one group with 13 different petition wordings.  Their plan was to do market research and then put forward the one that best matched the wishes of Missourians for signature and scrap the other 12.

My thoughts on this in more length:

Most of the opposition in the state is claiming moral high ground, rightly or wrongly.  Most of it surrounds perceptions related to religious beliefs, lifestyle choices, and messaging signals to children... again, don't shoot the messenger.  Very little of it is related to the belief that usage turns you into a white woman murdering vampire bat or something, very few still believe it makes you covet heroin, although some still do.  Winning hearts and minds on this is a lot tougher in these areas because there is a major lack of role models that speak out in support of this type of thing (pastors, local politicians, business leaders, etc).  Within the urban cores of KC and St. Louis you probably have 75% support or better, but statewide maybe 40%.  I think this might make it on the ballot but will get crushed on election day.  I would like to be wrong.

Changing minds can be tough.  I think drawing comparisons to alcohol being more harmful is nonproductive in places like MO (not including Kansas City or St. Louis) because people probably don't drink, or hide their drinking (see Nancy Grace, "soda is bad!").  I also think that drawing scientific conclusions in these areas are also slow change agents because many accross these states believe God whipped together the Earth and Universe in a week 6,000 years ago, and that climate change is a liberal conspiracy to control the economy, they feel the same way about MJ "studies" from liberal universities and foreign countries.  Even medical is tough because you have belief systems that reject holistic and preventative approaches to health as hippy medicine, and general disregard for health.  None of this covers the reverence of gun toting law enforcement, no nonesense judges, and job giving prison industry interests that remain major employers in areas that have had their resources regulated beyond productive use, and industry marginalized or sent overseas.  Urban offenders being sent away to rural prisons is good business.

Statewide it's an uphill battle.  Persistence will be key, and maybe revisiting the messaging that brought casinos from Las Vegas and Atlantic City to conservative-minded America.  Somehow well meaning people got on board that having the opportunity to squander your wealth at a casino was good for the state's people.  But it promised jobs in a variety of areas running and supporting casinos, and a portion of the money was marked to be reinvested in the state's education system, all the while providing a mode of rebranded wholesome entertainment to those willing to pay for it.  Show-Me-Cannabis is a solid organization, they're reorganized and making a much smarter attempt this time around.  They're persistent, and I think they'll need to stay that way for quite a bit while longer.

  17. If you could get Joel Olsteen to profess that God gave us Cannabis for a good reason, it played a role in shaping early Christianity, and that it should be emraced as a food product, economic necessity, and sacrament, it would be legalized in the following election.

  18. That's wonderful news! I hope your example inspires in Norway

  19. OK people, you can have this, or this, or this, or this, or this, or this, or this, or this, or this, or this, or this, or this, or that.  So, now they have a little over two months to do the research and get signatures?  Good luck, but I don't see it happening this time around in the timeframe they are dealing with.
