Electrical safety

  1. Hi there guys!
I'm planning in starting my first grow in a garage that only has one power socket.
I'm thinking about growing four plants at the same time in a closet, but the problem is that the power socket won't be used exclusively for growing and probably there will be times where several different things (such as a couple of amplifiers and maybe a tv)  are going to be plugged in at the same time as all the growing paraphernalia.
My question is, can a single power socket handle all of this gear? And if not, what is the worst thing that can happend?

Really depends on what size lights you use. But most likely not because I'm sure that there isn't one outlet on that circuit, probably shared on more outlets in the house. The recepticals themselves are only rated for 15amps on there own. Run a 20amp dedicated line out there and be done with it

Edit: fire is the worst that can happen. If you have a federal pacific service panel, breakers are known not to trip and cause fires. Spend 100 bucks and run a line

  3. Dude, IMO dont risk it.. I have my HID plugged into its own outlet. I then have my Inline fan plugged into its own outlet. Then I have my air pump, humidifier, and oscilating fan plugged into their own socket. I am gone 9 hours/day, 5 days a week and I am still worried that a fire will happen.

If a fire happens I am fucked (non medical state).

  4. I use power strips to plug all my shit in just in case.

  5. Lights and pumps need their own dedicated power. Period.
