greenhouse assistance

  1. so my grow partner and i are soon to be moving into a house together, and we want to build a greenhouse out back. we want to try to keep costs down to <$500, but build something near 14x28. what materials would be best for framing to keep costs down?

i've been thinking that bowed 2x's are cheap at the local mill. but my friend wants to try making the frame out of PVC pipe so we can disassemble and take it with us. my friend mentioned last night that he may try to buy the land/home outright because its a prime spot, but if he goes that route, how necessary is it to have an easily disassembled greenhouse?

anyway, i guess i was just looking for others' thoughts?

  2. build a hoophouse its chep and effective. Also dont cheap out on the plastic some are diffrent from others.

  3. Using pvc is cheap but disassembling may be an issue. You will need use PVC glue so it doesn't fall apart. Also don't cheap out on the plastic. Greenhouse film is the way to go as they last for 4-8 years. Painting the PVC with latex paint is also wise, your plastic won't degrade as fast.

  4. I'm not sure if I understand right. Do you want to make a greenhouse, ready to grow for under 500$ or just the greenhouse for that price?

  5.
thanks man, its looking like its gonna be a temporary structure anyway. every time my partner and i discuss the greenhouse we're high and i neglect to mention that PVC cement is necessary. but we are planning on using the greenhouse for two years, tops.

    just the greenhouse.

  6. Greenhouses are going to take some time to disassemble regardless of the materials you decide to use.
If you have decent carpentry skills, you can make a great, long lasting greenhouse for less than $500 using a wooden skeleton structure with greenhouse sheeting to fill the walls.

PVC is a good alternative, but Ifeel as though the structure isn't as desirable.

It really is a matter of skill and preference. More so than cost and disassembly.

  7. $500.00 is luxury here on GC.. just gogle tunnel house as many university's are now building their own and very very cheap too, best to place east ----west, and give serious thought to venting ...good luck

  8. If you use PVC, drill a small hole through the fitting and the pipe, then put a small bolt through it. Should keep it in place with no glue so it can be disassembled. Just an idea...
