Do CO public school teachers get drug tested?

  1. Do CO public school teachers get drug tested? If so, how often?

I saw a recent article where NORML is pushing for relaxation of drug testing on gov. employees in future ballots, so i assume the legalization hasnt really effected drug testing in this regard. If its against company policy, its against company policy as of now.... correct?

Any teachers comment on the current status of testing public school district employees?

    Just curious, thanks!

  2. Idk what role MMJ may play in this but as far as I know, company policy = gov funded = not allowed. Insight welcome.

  3. You might get a better response from the Q&A section of the forum, or maybe some google searches. I don't know enough about it to speak with any authority.

  4. Private companies hold to their own standards, government jobs hold to government standards...It depends on the company, a few local ones here have already eliminated it from the screen so that people can smoke just fine and keep their job.  It is mainly up to the company and how much federal funding they receive, every place is different.

  5. I dont think they do as I have some teacher friends that smoke and didnt seem concerned. Pre-emplyment might be different.

  6. Okay thanks, where im from now I think its just once a year at the beginning. But they reserve the right to randomly test you at any time.

  7. Any updates on this?

  8. public schools get federal funding...seems the feds would require it, but there is that little union thing.

most likely an entrance test and then with any incident (accident, injury, altercations) a test is required (many jobs are like that).

  9. I would think not (but don't take my word on it) my psychology teacher smoked lots of weed along with a few of my other teachers. My video productions teacher went on a rant because my friend was being threatened expulsion because he had been caught with weed and my teacher mad the point that cigarettes kill yet the school does nothing about underage kids smoking. I smoked with him once after I graduated this was in washington state before legalization. I was in a public school.

  10.
There were so many teachers that smoked weed at my school a quarter of the schools teachers would get fired if they did that. But I do not know the specifics. To me it seems like they don't test but maybe thats just my school.

  11. Sounds like a cool school.

cball: I think it depends on the state or maybe even county. My state is what you desribed (test at beginning and if accident or suspecion) I believe. I dont think all states test though, I hear Texas for instance does not.

  12. Most public schools in the united states do not drug test regularly or even annually

I am 90% sure they don't in Canada, although one teacher, when I was in HS, got suspended for a week, and slightly demoted because he was teaching his classes, well lets say 'drunk'.  But he certainly kept his job and still teaches to this day I believe.(although he may be retired now)

  14. Any more insight into this question?

  15. I live in CO and anyone who works in a public school I know gets an initial drug screening prior to employment. Now after your employed, that's a whole different thing. I have a medical recommendation and I know first hand I've seen dozens of teachers in dispensaries shopping alongside me. I believe most schools won't drug test again unless it's specified in the contract, or unless they are suspicious about something. Like I said, it's different for different school districts.

  16. Okay thanks for that kyle. So their is an initial drug screening that takes place prior to emplyement? Hmmm, same as my state then.
