Optimal Firecracker Recipe

    The Why
I know there are many threads about firecrackers and recipes, so I thought it would be nice to gather the knowledge I have acquired from reading them and other articles into one optimal recipe.
I have a very small stash and with close to zero chances of getting more weed in the future so I want to make the most of what I have. That is: squeeze every last bit of THC from the weed to get the highest I possibly can.

    The Chemistry
Why Precook: Fresh undried weed has very low levels of THC and high levels of THCA (a precursor to THC which is not psychoactive). THCA is progressively decarboxylated to THC with drying and especially with intense heating (like when cannabis is smoked).
This is a good article explaining that after 1 hour in the oven at a temperature around 240F (115 Celsius) most of the THCA is converted into THC.
Why mix peanut butter and oil: The THC must be extracted from the plant in order to be processed by our bodies. THC is only soluble in lipids (fats/oils) and alcohol. Therefore, for this recipe, the higher the lipid content, the more chances there are for the THC to get absorbed.
Why cook a second time: Heating speeds up the extraction process, but it can also occur at room temperature over a longer period of time.
Why eat something 2hrs-6hrs before eating the weed: The happier your liver is, the less likely it is to go full berserker on the THC you just ingested. Make your liver happy by giving it something to process, like food.
An article highly recommends eating mangos before getting high because it's said to increase the potency of the high. I have experimented and can confirm it works with edibles as well - eat a mango right before you eat your dose of crackers and expect the high to hit like a ton of bricks.

    The Ingredients
    - weed
    - peanut butter: 1-2 table spoons (doesn't matter which kind of PB)
    - crackers
    - oil (vegetable oil, olive oil, doesn't matter)
    - tin foil

    The Recipe
    1. We're looking to maximize the surface area of the plant which is in contact with the fat/oil. I very highly recommend thoroughly cutting the weed with scissors, or for optimal effect, use a grinder.

    2. Place the weed on a sheet of tin foil in an oven-proof dish. You may wrap it or put it in any oven-proof dish to eliminate/reduce the smell. Place in oven at 240F (115 Celsius) for about 30 minutes. Feel free to try it with one hour, at that temperature no THC is lost. Don't open the oven because it messes with the temperature.

    3. In a small cup, mix the peanut butter with as much oil as needed in order to make a paste with the viscosity of jam (whatever is liquid, can be put on a cracker and doesn't fall off straight away). Add the precooked weed to the mix. Stir well.

    4. Spread the mix onto as many crackers as needed. (I spread 3 buds of about this size onto 13 crackers - I think I used too much peanut butter. One bud does the trick for me, so I ate 4 crackers and had the experience described below at #3)

    5. Wrap the sandwiched crackers in tin foil in order not to lose any of the paste.

    6. Put them in the oven at 320F-340F (160-170 Celsius) for 20-22 minutes. Again, try not opening the oven door.

    Enjoy !

    Notes:
    - The crackers are entirely decorative. I used them because I want some type of support for the weed paste.
    - The final cook speeds up the process of the THC being absorbed by the fat. The same results could be achieved by leaving the mix alone for about a week (deduced from personal experimentation).
    - Haven't tried with Nutella but I imagine it could work just as well if you also help it along with some oil.
    - Eating something 2-6 hours before eating the crackers can make a big difference when it comes to the potency of the crackers. Make sure your stomach is content and not screaming for food.
    - Sorry I don't have any pictures, I wasn't expecting to be blown away by this recipe and actually post it on grasscity  :D)

    Previous Experiences
In all of the following I have ingested approximately the same amount of weed (1 bud of about the size in this picture. Yes, I am very lightweight.)
    1. Wanted to make firecrackers for the first time. I did not precook the weed. Also, I did not have proper crackers so I improvised with some pastries, onto which I added peanut butter then sprinkled chopped weed. That resulted in an improper mixing of the weed with the peanut butter. Ate them as soon as they came out of the oven. Mild high, 6-8 hrs.
    2. Again, no precooking of the weed. Sprinkled it on top of normal crackers with peanut butter and sandwiched. Ate them after 22 mins in the oven. Normal high, 12-14 hrs.
    3. Used the recipe described above. Left the crackers for about a day before eating them. Was high for 24 hours straight, with peak time of at least 4 hours (it came in waves, I fell asleep after a strong wave)

P.S. I see this post as work in progress, so please comment with whatever improvements you may know of.
If you try it, do share your experience !

I also have one question: does anybody know what a bud like the one in the picture above weighs ?
    Thanks for reading !

  2. The bud is probably a half gram.Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Grasscity Forum mobile app

  3. Quick update, related to the recipe (sort of, it's for edibles in general)

When you ate will also affect your high. When the body is digesting, metabolism increases. When metabolism increases, the body is able to process THC more efficiently.
Make sure you eat a meal between 2 and 6 hours before eating your weed.

  4. I don't know what made you bump this after like a month, but I made these yesterday before it was bumped so thanks for making it easier to find.

I don't remember why I chose to make these over any other recipe, but I did. Anyway, I'd been wondering if I was immune to edibles after 3 times with minimal effect feeling like I wasted weed. These had me high as shit from when I ate them around midday until I went to bed around midnight. At last an edible that worked for me.

Had to eat way too many crackers because of how liquidy the mixture was and I was using ritz, but other than that, it was fine.

  5. I'm so glad to hear that this recipe restored your faith in edibles ! If you find any way to improve it, I hope you share it with the rest of us :)

As for my absence, my life's been quite hectic lately - I switched countries and jobs and I'm in between flats :) Which is sad only because I don't know any suppliers in my current place of residence...

  6. i can hardly wait to try this out i've never done edibles

  7. Let us know how it goes :D

    :hippie:

  8. Herb is in the oven as I type. Thanks for the super easy recipe. Will update on our findings! (lmfj for nothinglost)

  9. Here's the report.

We ground up 4 buds about twice the size of the one pictured (in the original post) and baked them for 35 minutes on 240.

Then we mixed olive oil into natural peanut butter and let it sit out for 2 1/2 - 3 hours before we spread them on the crackers and ate them.

We ate half of the mix on 4 crackers each. For a total of 1 decent sized bud a piece.

About 45 minutes after eating them we felt a mild tingle followed by a nice light and fluffy feeling. That lasted about an hour or so I would say.

We never really felt the effects in a strong way at all. I should say that we smoke a decent amount of herb on a daily basis so our tolerance is higher than most casual smokers. That may be a large factor when making firecrackers (or any home made edibles for that matter).

Long story short: It was fun and we felt mildly relaxed for about an hour. We will try again but with more herb next time. :)

Thanks for the recipe and information Green Tweety. :)

  10. Okay..... Report #2

Today we spread the remaining Canna-Peanut Butter on some whole wheat toast.

About 45 minutes later the same style of "light and fluffy" feeling started.

Then within another 30 minutes we both felt great!! Letting the Canna-Peanut Butter mix sit out and stew over night really seems to have kicked up the THC for sure. I'd say that we felt good for at least 2 hours, possibly 3. It's hard to place an exact number of time on how long we felt the effects because the euphoric light feeling would come in waves.

I personally had 2 "large" waves and 1 "small" wave over the course of the afternoon.

Great recipe, method 3 works great!!!

  11. I'm very happy to hear that you had fun !

Do note that from my experimentation, I noticed that a second cook of ~20 minutes (as described in recipe) is about equal in terms of extracted THC to leaving the mixture sit for a week. For a more intense high, one must be patient :D

I baked a batch of 3.5g of high quality bud on Saturday. Got 20 crackers out of that. One and a half of those firecrackers had me on my knees, I swear I wasn't planning to get that stoned ! I'll be leaving them sit for some weeks then I'll try again - with just one this time !

  12. How much weed should I use for one serving? I'm a daily smoker if that makes a difference. This is also my first time trying edibles.

"We all need something to help us unwind at the end of the day. You might have a glass of wine, or a joint, or a big delicious blob of heroin to silence your silly brainbox of its witterings but there has to be some form of punctuation, or life just seems utterly relentless."

  13.
Rick19XX - I suppose that really depends on how much you smoke on a regular basis. If you smoke daily (or multiple times a day) then I would suggest leaning towards a larger quantity to ensure that you actually feel the effects.

If you don't smoke daily, then I would say 1 decent sized bud should do the trick for a single serving.

In my humble opinion, if you're going to try the recipe anyways, why not make enough to share?.....

Edibles are fun by yourself but they are awesome with friends. ;)

  14.
So apparently we missed the section of the recipe where it says to cook the herb a second time at 320 - 340..... whoops!

We will try again soon, this time with the actual recipe. ;)

    Hahhahhaha~!!!

I guess that's just how it goes when you try and follow a Cannabis Recipe whilst Medicated.

Oh well, as the old saying goes...... Try try again.

    :)
    Thanks again man.

With all the different types of weed with different amounts of THC, and all the things that can change from one recipe to another (even different types of ovens can either ruin or improve a cook), the only way to know for sure is to try. That means eat half of what you think might work for you. If in 90 minutes you don't feel high or not high enough, eat the other half as well.
Me, I keep getting higher and higher for about 3 hours after I've eaten. At the 3 hour mark I can probably say I've reached my peak and I relax and enjoy it for however long it lasts.

Haha well that explains it ! :D Let us know how your next cook goes and be careful not to overdo it !

  16. Could I decarb the weed the night before then mix with Nutella and let it sit over night to increase potency?

  17. sick thread brother

  18.
    Yes. :)

That's what we did (minus the 2nd cook in the oven) and it did in fact increase potency by leaving it out overnight.

Let us know how it goes for you. I'm interested to hear other people's experiences. :)

  19. If you mean to cook it again AFTER you cooked the crackers for 20 minutes, don't do it, they will burn. When he said 2nd cook he meant the decarb was the first and baking the crackers was second

  20. Should I keep it refrigerated when I store it over night?
