  1. Took this 11 point this morning around 7:30am.  Broadside shot from about 125yds, taken with my .300 Win Mag.  Just got home and now enjoying a cold beer and victory bowl  :smoke:

  2. ...would have eaten ol' boy before making it back to the truck.

  3. He'll definitely be on the table soon man don't worry about that lol.

  4. Nice Buck.

  5. Nice buck, goddamn a 300 win mag lol. People always say my 308 is overkill. I tell them there's no such thing as overkill and that I don't like having to look for my deer. Dead where it stands. Also like being able to shoot 300 yards

  6. Lol yeah I get that from some people too. But I find with the right load I can take down a deer cleanly every time without much damage to the meat. I also like the fact that I am able to hunt much larger game with this caliber if I want to.

  7. thanks man

  8. That's why I got a 308, I can take anything in North America with it. Last year I got a doe with a head shot from 175 yards. Zero meat wasted. I can shoot dimes from 200 yards so if I don't want the mount, headshots the way to go.

  9. Kinda unethical, but, do what you do.

  10. Explain how that is unethical? When hunting, you want the most humane kill. The deer is dead instantly, not feeling any pain, not running away bleeding.

  11. Lol shooting a deer in the head is an unethical shot. I shot 4 this year so dont act like you have to explain hunting to me... Its an unethical shot. Im not gonna argue about it.

  12. And a deer's head is small. I seen a video with a deer walking around.l with half a jaw, (like half of its face was blown off) and it was still alive. Not always an instant kill

  13. First of all - nice buck, congrats.

Now, IMO headshots are extrememly unethical. I personally have made them and yes the ones I have shot have dropped in their tracks. But, hit them in the jaw, you won't kill them. They'll be running around jawless for the rest of their lives impossible to eat or drink. I've also seen several bow shot deer shot in the head and keep living and suffering. If it's your thing, more power to you. If you don't want the deer to move after you shoot, take a neck shot. I try to shoot most of my deer in the neck and every one I have ever shot in the neck dropped dead in it's tracks.

  14. Deer taste so good.  Well done, OP!

Make a pipe with a piece of antler!

  15. That old boy will make a nice mount. Thanks for sharing.

  16. Nice buck.

  17. good lookin' Buck, bud.

  18. Nice kill! But I have more respect for archery hunting. Pick up a bow and get closer to your game.

  19. Very nice Captain!

I have a .30-06 but generally use a .270 or occasionally a custom AR for deer. I've never taken a head shot - although I do it all the time with hogs - but I wouldn't be against trying it with the AR at reasonable ranges. I probably wouldn't with a bolt action though.
